my experience has been like in the past year specifically Twitter has been so year specifically Twitter has been so anti-indian without any push back anti-indian without any push back someone will spread like some really someone will spread like some really hurtful hateful stuff and everyone will hurtful hateful stuff and everyone will just be like oh you know like that's just be like oh you know like that's just the name of the game it's rage bait just the name of the game it's rage bait he's doing well View countwise and it's he's doing well View countwise and it's like is no one going to be like this like is no one going to be like this guy's an idiot when you don't see people guy's an idiot when you don't see people that look like you on TV or represented that look like you on TV or represented in Media or anything it's like you you in Media or anything it's like you you know you feel a little isolated people know you feel a little isolated people [ __ ] call each other out all the time [ __ ] call each other out all the time it's not clear to me that that has any it's not clear to me that that has any positive effect so then what does have a positive effect so then what does have a positive effect like what have you what positive effect like what have you what have you found to be a net have you found to be a net positive you can call me Dr squeaks if positive you can call me Dr squeaks if you want I like it my mom would be you want I like it my mom would be proud so uh how you been man it's been a proud so uh how you been man it's been a while yeah I've been great how have you while yeah I've been great how have you been uh it's been nutty dude it's been been uh it's been nutty dude it's been crazy since I think we talked like what
01:02 – 02:02
crazy since I think we talked like what like a year and a half two years ago yes like a year and a half two years ago yes like uh it must have been two years ago like uh it must have been two years ago now I've really fond memories of that uh now I've really fond memories of that uh conversation I don't even remember what conversation I don't even remember what we talked about but I remember enjoying we talked about but I remember enjoying it immensely and it's some of the most it immensely and it's some of the most positive feedback we've gotten like so positive feedback we've gotten like so people like so many people were like we people like so many people were like we loved that collab no no great I mean I loved that collab no no great I mean I don't remember specifics of what we talk don't remember specifics of what we talk about too so uh we might uh do a round about too so uh we might uh do a round two of the same topic sounds great man two of the same topic sounds great man recycled content that's what we're all recycled content that's what we're all about of the game and then we can react about of the game and then we can react to it later perect double triple dip to it later perect double triple dip yeah wait so what have you been up to in yeah wait so what have you been up to in the last uh year or so um so you know the last uh year or so um so you know it's it's a great it's it's a great question question um so like when I started this thing um so like when I started this thing right it was like not first of all right it was like not first of all supposed to be a thing but I was like supposed to be a thing but I was like okay there's a group of people who need okay there's a group of people who need help with their mental health and this help with their mental health and this was like back in 2019 and so I started was like back in 2019 and so I started streaming about Psychiatry and
02:02 – 03:02
streaming about Psychiatry and spirituality and um beta I know and and spirituality and um beta I know and and then like so over the last year or two then like so over the last year or two so I I think something that's kind of so I I think something that's kind of like confusing for a lot of people is like confusing for a lot of people is that we're really dedicated to the work that we're really dedicated to the work which I know sounds kind of weird and which I know sounds kind of weird and sounds very Circle jerkish but so so I sounds very Circle jerkish but so so I when I look at the problem of like when I look at the problem of like what's wrong with mental health in the what's wrong with mental health in the universe today I think it's like universe today I think it's like streaming is a huge part of the solution streaming is a huge part of the solution but there are many other parts of the but there are many other parts of the solution um so we you know we we've solution um so we you know we we've developed like certain programs and developed like certain programs and things like that to like help people things like that to like help people with their lives we've done so over the with their lives we've done so over the last two years we've done a lot of last two years we've done a lot of advocacy work um went to Capitol Hill advocacy work um went to Capitol Hill went to the white house uh work I saw went to the white house uh work I saw you guys at the UN weren't uh not at the you guys at the UN weren't uh not at the UN but we've collabed with the UN before UN but we've collabed with the UN before collab can I just can I just stop you collab can I just can I just stop you and say collab with the UN is a crazy and say collab with the UN is a crazy sentence yeah I know so there's like sentence yeah I know so there's like because because I you know we I I read because because I you know we I I read like all these posts and stuff from our like all these posts and stuff from our community and I see like what people are
03:02 – 04:02
community and I see like what people are struggling with and and there's like a struggling with and and there's like a limit to how much watching things on the limit to how much watching things on the internet can shape your life and there internet can shape your life and there are very real so there's a lot of are very real so there's a lot of evidence that our Mental Health crisis evidence that our Mental Health crisis is like an economic crisis with a is like an economic crisis with a different face on it so if you look at different face on it so if you look at like you know what what correlates with like you know what what correlates with people's poor mental health we've got people's poor mental health we've got like a loneliness epidemic we've got like a loneliness epidemic we've got like you know financial problems um like you know financial problems um millenn everyone below millennial is millenn everyone below millennial is like screwed in some way M and so like like screwed in some way M and so like you know if we really think about okay you know if we really think about okay how can we improve people's mental how can we improve people's mental health it goes beyond doing therapy or health it goes beyond doing therapy or being a psychiatrist it even goes beyond being a psychiatrist it even goes beyond making content and it's really like making content and it's really like working with some of these other working with some of these other organizations to make a larger scale organizations to make a larger scale impact doing things like research and impact doing things like research and stuff like that too hey y'all just a stuff like that too hey y'all just a reminder that in addition to these reminder that in addition to these awesome videos we have a ton of tools awesome videos we have a ton of tools and resources to help you grow and and resources to help you grow and overcome the challenges that you face overcome the challenges that you face we've things like Dr K's guide to mental we've things like Dr K's guide to mental health personalized coaching programs
04:02 – 05:02
health personalized coaching programs and things like free community events and things like free community events and other sorts of tools to help you no and other sorts of tools to help you no matter where you are on your mental matter where you are on your mental health Journey so check out the link in health Journey so check out the link in the description below and back to the the description below and back to the video so I've been doing a lot of that video so I've been doing a lot of that stuff and then I've also been um I went stuff and then I've also been um I went through a little bit of a midlife through a little bit of a midlife crisis which was really interesting um crisis which was really interesting um but then like sort of feel really good but then like sort of feel really good about it now I think it's like a about it now I think it's like a developmental stage well was a result of developmental stage well was a result of the mid life crisis if you don't mind the mid life crisis if you don't mind sharing um so I I think I had kind of sharing um so I I think I had kind of been spiritually coasting for many years been spiritually coasting for many years MH so I I went I went kind of hard into MH so I I went I went kind of hard into spirituality because I I like you know I spirituality because I I like you know I woke up one day and I was like what the woke up one day and I was like what the hell am I doing like what is this sure hell am I doing like what is this sure you know it's like am I just going to you know it's like am I just going to continue streaming about mental health continue streaming about mental health and making YouTube videos for the next and making YouTube videos for the next decade of my life and how much of an decade of my life and how much of an impact is that really GNA have sure and impact is that really GNA have sure and and what am I on this Earth for uh we and what am I on this Earth for uh we also you know it's kind of interesting also you know it's kind of interesting because we we really do try to price our
05:02 – 06:02
because we we really do try to price our products and services to be available so products and services to be available so one of the biggest pieces of feedback one of the biggest pieces of feedback that we get is like oh you know your that we get is like oh you know your guide is way too cheap so people will be guide is way too cheap so people will be like you should sell it for like $200 like you should sell it for like $200 $300 that's what medical doctors who $300 that's what medical doctors who sell courses on the internet sell it for sell courses on the internet sell it for but we're really proud of or I'm proud but we're really proud of or I'm proud of like the fact that people in21 of like the fact that people in21 countries can afford it yeah but then countries can afford it yeah but then that also creates challenges from like a that also creates challenges from like a Cal standpoint because you're leaving a Cal standpoint because you're leaving a lot we leave a lot of money on the table lot we leave a lot of money on the table and so I was I was and so I was I was uh there's some sponsorship offers that uh there's some sponsorship offers that we've gotten from companies that we've gotten from companies that probably in retrospect it's good that we probably in retrospect it's good that we didn't take them from a even perspective didn't take them from a even perspective sure but um you know sometimes when you sure but um you know sometimes when you get faced with those sponsorships it's get faced with those sponsorships it's like okay do you like okay do you wanna stick does it feel wrong to you wanna stick does it feel wrong to you and how much you know how how many zeros and how much you know how how many zeros of money are you going to pass up yes of money are you going to pass up yes and so I was that's like every sponsor and so I was that's like every sponsor you have to play play that little mental you have to play play that little mental gymnastics a little bit like is this
06:02 – 07:02
gymnastics a little bit like is this worth the risk or is this ethically okay worth the risk or is this ethically okay to take yeah so and and in our case it to take yeah so and and in our case it was sort of like the way I what I was was sort of like the way I what I was really struggling with was like okay if really struggling with was like okay if I take the sponsorship how much good can I take the sponsorship how much good can we do with this Capital yeah right it's we do with this Capital yeah right it's not I mean it's never really been about not I mean it's never really been about like I I mean I I play DotA too man like like I I mean I I play DotA too man like the game is free I've been playing it the game is free I've been playing it for 13 years yeah ask you a question for 13 years yeah ask you a question about what you said you said like uh you about what you said you said like uh you went through a midlife Cris and you know went through a midlife Cris and you know in related to if you really want to be in related to if you really want to be doing like YouTube and stuff all the doing like YouTube and stuff all the time um and then you mentioned as well time um and then you mentioned as well earlier that you're you know for the earlier that you're you know for the last year and a half you're going you're last year and a half you're going you're collabing with the UN you're going to collabing with the UN you're going to the White House you're making courses the White House you're making courses and I know you have this thing called and I know you have this thing called AOE healing where you try to heal you AOE healing where you try to heal you know as many people as possible what know as many people as possible what Avenue have you found that to like to be Avenue have you found that to like to be the most effective with your company's the most effective with your company's mission statement great question so I mission statement great question so I think it's kind of weird but one of the think it's kind of weird but one of the key things that I came away with is like key things that I came away with is like focusing on efficacy is not the goal I
07:02 – 08:02
focusing on efficacy is not the goal I know sounds so weird but it's sort of know sounds so weird but it's sort of like there's some balance of like you like there's some balance of like you know is it know is it effective so we went to Capitol Hill a effective so we went to Capitol Hill a couple of months ago and met with um two couple of months ago and met with um two senators offices and three or four uh senators offices and three or four uh like Congress person's offices and and like Congress person's offices and and so like is that effective like I don't so like is that effective like I don't know so I think a big part of that know so I think a big part of that reframing was really thinking about okay reframing was really thinking about okay what's what's the target we're shooting what's what's the target we're shooting for and what I sort of settled on is for and what I sort of settled on is like we're going to try to just do like we're going to try to just do random amounts of good in ways that feel random amounts of good in ways that feel good and if it if it is even if if it good and if it if it is even if if it isn't effective because there are a lot isn't effective because there are a lot of things that we do today that are not of things that we do today that are not effective sure you could argue that this effective sure you could argue that this stream is not the most effective use for stream is not the most effective use for solving the Mental Health crisis you're solving the Mental Health crisis you're kidding and also that's okay so I think kidding and also that's okay so I think that's a big part of what I kind of that's a big part of what I kind of worked through is like okay because then worked through is like okay because then you start getting into metrics and it's you start getting into metrics and it's like how do I make the biggest impact like how do I make the biggest impact and it's like you know what better and it's like you know what better people than me can save the world and
08:02 – 09:02
people than me can save the world and make the biggest impact and get you make the biggest impact and get you know get into that I'm going to do what know get into that I'm going to do what feels good to me I'm going to do what feels good to me I'm going to do what feels right to me I'm going to do what feels right to me I'm going to do what feels fun to me and like I'm okay I feels fun to me and like I'm okay I don't have to make the biggest impact I don't have to make the biggest impact I I want to make some impact and I want to I want to make some impact and I want to help help people but I I actually moved away from people but I I actually moved away from efficacy as like a an outcome yeah and efficacy as like a an outcome yeah and not that we don't measure it in some way not that we don't measure it in some way but that's not like the North Star I but that's not like the North Star I think a lot of the problems that I see think a lot of the problems that I see with like startups today is that you with like startups today is that you know impact is their North Star and then know impact is their North Star and then they end up making a lot of what I think they end up making a lot of what I think are are like uh maybe the right word is like uh maybe the right word is compromising decisions sure for the sake compromising decisions sure for the sake of their North Star and they wind up in of their North Star and they wind up in a place that is very different from a place that is very different from where they started yeah I mean I where they started yeah I mean I remember I worked in uh like a lot of remember I worked in uh like a lot of startups and the one word that would startups and the one word that would really trick trigger me was scalability really trick trigger me was scalability when we're when we're talking about when we're when we're talking about things like mental health or we're
09:02 – 10:02
things like mental health or we're talking about things that are artsy or talking about things that are artsy or creative you almost don't want creative you almost don't want scalability like you don't want to make scalability like you don't want to make the most of everything you want to like the most of everything you want to like you're saying you want to make the you're saying you want to make the biggest impact but that could be just biggest impact but that could be just impacting one person greatly like what impacting one person greatly like what I'm trying to say is it's not about how I'm trying to say is it's not about how many people you reach but it's about many people you reach but it's about what you reach them with like um you what you reach them with like um you know like how how deep can you go with know like how how deep can you go with your individual customers so I feel like your individual customers so I feel like that's like a huge thing even with the that's like a huge thing even with the Stream everyone's like try to get as Stream everyone's like try to get as many viewers as you can but it's like many viewers as you can but it's like how can you show more appreciation and how can you show more appreciation and really uh delve into your Niche that really uh delve into your Niche that should be the question you're asking a should be the question you're asking a little bit so for any business I feel little bit so for any business I feel like scalability is this ugly word like scalability is this ugly word that's like let's just and then you end that's like let's just and then you end up standing for nothing yeah so I mean I up standing for nothing yeah so I mean I I agree I mean I think scalability has a I agree I mean I think scalability has a you know has some value but I think a you know has some value but I think a great example of that is like so for for great example of that is like so for for years people have been telling me like years people have been telling me like oh you should build an app and like have oh you should build an app and like have some subscription based model right join some subscription based model right join the intific of
10:02 – 11:02
the intific of content and charge people a monthly fee content and charge people a monthly fee for things that they will never own and for things that they will never own and can be revoked because of some licensing can be revoked because of some licensing agreements in the fine print let me let agreements in the fine print let me let me just break my social media addiction me just break my social media addiction by installing a new social media to help by installing a new social media to help me break my social media addiction and me break my social media addiction and so we have a membership now but for many so we have a membership now but for many years like the key thing was like people years like the key thing was like people were telling me like sign up start a were telling me like sign up start a patreon and do this and do that and I patreon and do this and do that and I was like but what do people get yeah was like but what do people get yeah right like it's not I'm sure like I'm right like it's not I'm sure like I'm sure a subscription model makes us more sure a subscription model makes us more money but like just because it makes money but like just because it makes like what do people get for that and so like what do people get for that and so we finally it took us about four and a we finally it took us about four and a half years but there and speaking of half years but there and speaking of going deep so there was there's a group going deep so there was there's a group of things that I wanted to talk about of things that I wanted to talk about that would not perform well on the that would not perform well on the YouTube YouTube algorithm and so that's where we started algorithm and so that's where we started our memberships where where people our memberships where where people basically now they vote on what they basically now they vote on what they want me to talk about so like all prepar want me to talk about so like all prepar lectures that are determined by the lectures that are determined by the members and the really fun thing about
11:02 – 12:02
members and the really fun thing about that so the other challenge that we ran that so the other challenge that we ran into is that a lot of like the good work into is that a lot of like the good work that we want to do I think is not is that we want to do I think is not is contrary to metrics on the internet so contrary to metrics on the internet so one thing that performs terribly is if I one thing that performs terribly is if I make a five part let's say YouTube make a five part let's say YouTube lecture series on lecture series on emotions part number one will do great emotions part number one will do great and each subsequent part will be like and each subsequent part will be like half as good and it'll kill your channel half as good and it'll kill your channel because no one no one wants like because no one no one wants like everyone No One's Gonna stick around for everyone No One's Gonna stick around for part five but on the membership side part five but on the membership side it's completely different so these are it's completely different so these are people who are invested in kind of people who are invested in kind of long-term stuff so it's really cool long-term stuff so it's really cool because for me it allows me to like go because for me it allows me to like go deeper into topics instead of saying deeper into topics instead of saying staying on the surface yeah and it it staying on the surface yeah and it it feels a lot more like okay you you all feels a lot more like okay you you all get to choose so we we had a lecture um get to choose so we we had a lecture um this past week on soulmates which is this past week on soulmates which is like a really fascinating topic and that like a really fascinating topic and that one may have done okay but like you know one may have done okay but like you know we'll do like kind of advanced stuff we'll do like kind of advanced stuff like weird stuff about spirituality
12:02 – 13:02
like weird stuff about spirituality which is another big thing for me is which is another big thing for me is like I I had some I I went hard into like I I had some I I went hard into spirituality again for the first time spirituality again for the first time like so for a couple years I've been like so for a couple years I've been doing some pretty hardcore spiritual doing some pretty hardcore spiritual practice and that has completely changed practice and that has completely changed my perspective oh what what my perspective oh what what practice um I started doing some more practice um I started doing some more serious thric serious thric practice and then a couple of other k practice and then a couple of other k typee type typee type practices okay can you explain that for practices okay can you explain that for people who may not people who may not know sure what do do you know what that know sure what do do you know what that me me okay I okay I wasn't I know I am brown but I'm not wasn't I know I am brown but I'm not that brown unfortunately here here's the that brown unfortunately here here's the way I would explain it so there's like way I would explain it so there's like um you know if you look at spiritual um you know if you look at spiritual practices there's a range of things that practices there's a range of things that are plausible to things that are or are plausible to things that are or maybe scientific to esoteric is like maybe scientific to esoteric is like there's like a spectrum okay so if we there's like a spectrum okay so if we look at something look at something mindfulness which is not even meditation mindfulness which is not even meditation really but mindfulness is like
13:02 – 14:02
really but mindfulness is like completely above board there are tons of completely above board there are tons of studies on it like we don't really know studies on it like we don't really know exactly what it does or how it works but exactly what it does or how it works but it reduces depression anxiety narcissism it reduces depression anxiety narcissism by somewhere around 20% improves Focus by somewhere around 20% improves Focus productivity and then there's all this productivity and then there's all this like weird stuff so when I started my uh like weird stuff so when I started my uh meditative practice I was very skeptical meditative practice I was very skeptical yeah and so I I started with the yeah and so I I started with the practices that were like scientifically practices that were like scientifically verif ified and I thought a lot of this verif ified and I thought a lot of this weird stuff like about like these these weird stuff like about like these these you know different dimensions of you know different dimensions of Consciousness and crap like that like I Consciousness and crap like that like I thought all that was basically BS yeah thought all that was basically BS yeah and then uh but over the last couple of and then uh but over the last couple of years and then I also um you know was years and then I also um you know was skeptical of spiritual gurus who charged skeptical of spiritual gurus who charged gigantic piles of money and then I gigantic piles of money and then I realized that there a lot of scam realized that there a lot of scam artists there but that there are some artists there but that there are some through my own practice and and being a through my own practice and and being a teacher in some ways I realized that teacher in some ways I realized that there are like some things that I think there are like some things that I think are
14:02 – 15:02
are really I I changed my mind on a lot of really I I changed my mind on a lot of that stuff oh interesting so um and I that stuff oh interesting so um and I mean I guess we can go into more detail mean I guess we can go into more detail if you want to but like I realize that if you want to but like I realize that there's just a lot of biases that we there's just a lot of biases that we have that are like ignorant biases right have that are like ignorant biases right so so someone who is skeptical of let's so so someone who is skeptical of let's say a high priced meditation initiation say a high priced meditation initiation or even the concept of initiation is is or even the concept of initiation is is working from a place of ignorance they working from a place of ignorance they have no idea what initiation is they have no idea what initiation is they don't know why it works and they think don't know why it works and they think it's bad so over over some over about 18 it's bad so over over some over about 18 19 years of practice I started to 19 years of practice I started to realized that oh a lot of this crap is realized that oh a lot of this crap is valid and I understood why it's valid valid and I understood why it's valid how it's valid so I would say I took the how it's valid so I would say I took the plunge in some ways oh interesting um plunge in some ways oh interesting um and and did a couple of things that I and and did a couple of things that I had avoided and I also realized that I had avoided and I also realized that I had avoided those things out of had avoided those things out of essentially certain degree of ego and essentially certain degree of ego and ignorance because I don't really know ignorance because I don't really know what it's like I don't know I'm just what it's like I don't know I'm just judging if I see a big price tag I think judging if I see a big price tag I think that this person must be a scam artist that this person must be a scam artist um and and so I did a couple of those
15:02 – 16:02
um and and so I did a couple of those things and it's been quite revolutionary things and it's been quite revolutionary wow I mean that I'm so curious on what wow I mean that I'm so curious on what those things those things were I share I share your same were I share I share your same skepticism on like the guru charging a skepticism on like the guru charging a lot of money because I feel like you lot of money because I feel like you know you grow up in India and you hear know you grow up in India and you hear about these like gurus and Villages who about these like gurus and Villages who are just like basically taking advantage are just like basically taking advantage of poor people is how I used to see it of poor people is how I used to see it where they would charge people at like where they would charge people at like basically all their money to reach some basically all their money to reach some sort of Enlightenment I feel like that's sort of Enlightenment I feel like that's antithetical to what enlightenment antithetical to what enlightenment should represent it's like it shouldn't should represent it's like it shouldn't be a cause and effect or input thing it be a cause and effect or input thing it should be like a a quiet solo work like should be like a a quiet solo work like Enlightenment can't be sold is what is Enlightenment can't be sold is what is what my preconceived notion is um but what my preconceived notion is um but maybe you know something uh maybe maybe you know something uh maybe there's some practices that are legit there's some practices that are legit yeah so I I think I it I think it's a yeah so I I think I it I think it's a very reasonable statement to make but I very reasonable statement to make but I I and this is going to get weird but I I I and this is going to get weird but I I think I think uh there are presumptions
16:02 – 17:02
think I think uh there are presumptions about the nature like the metaphysics of about the nature like the metaphysics of Enlightenment that I think that we're Enlightenment that I think that we're missing a couple of things so one good missing a couple of things so one good example of this is diksha which means example of this is diksha which means initiation so people think that there initiation so people think that there is you know like if I if is you know like if I if I get initiated into a practice and I I get initiated into a practice and I versus I just like read a book about the versus I just like read a book about the practice or watch a video about the practice or watch a video about the practice practice those are qualitatively quite different those are qualitatively quite different that's my view now so to receive Nika that's my view now so to receive Nika from a guru they basically impart it's from a guru they basically impart it's like they impart a portion of their like they impart a portion of their spiritual energy into you which is kind spiritual energy into you which is kind of like receiving a down payment for a of like receiving a down payment for a house so it's like when your parents house so it's like when your parents give you a down payment for a house like give you a down payment for a house like it drastically changes the trajectory of it drastically changes the trajectory of your financial situation right so your financial situation right so instead of like being starting in debt instead of like being starting in debt and so the efficiency of the growth and so the efficiency of the growth increases very rapidly when you receive increases very rapidly when you receive dsha um and so those kinds of Concepts I
17:02 – 18:02
dsha um and so those kinds of Concepts I didn't really understand very well until didn't really understand very well until I started digging into it more and more I started digging into it more and more and more and then then that begs the and more and then then that begs the question what does spiritual energy mean question what does spiritual energy mean so then that's a whole different so then that's a whole different conversation about understanding that conversation about understanding that the reason that meditation works for the reason that meditation works for some people and doesn't work for other some people and doesn't work for other people is because of like this basically people is because of like this basically the spiritual energy accumulation stat the spiritual energy accumulation stat which you can meditate and it can have which you can meditate and it can have some Mental effects and some phys some Mental effects and some phys ological effects but there's a third ological effects but there's a third dimension of like leveling up which is dimension of like leveling up which is really what matters for enlightenment really what matters for enlightenment and I would agree that Enlightenment and I would agree that Enlightenment can't be bought or sold but there are can't be bought or sold but there are absolutely certain techniques and absolutely certain techniques and certain things that can increase your certain things that can increase your propensity for enlightenment I believe propensity for enlightenment I believe that so then uh my question is and sorry that so then uh my question is and sorry if if you want to move on I'm happy to if if you want to move on I'm happy to move on but my question is then why is move on but my question is then why is there a price tag on there a price tag on it what a great question like if it's if it what a great question like if it's if it's so revolutionary it's like it's
18:02 – 19:02
it's so revolutionary it's like it's Enlightenment is described as basically Enlightenment is described as basically a fundamental you know it's almost every a fundamental you know it's almost every human's Journey whether they know it or human's Journey whether they know it or not so it's like then why are people not so it's like then why are people charging anything for it in the first charging anything for it in the first place like distribution so uh no it's place like distribution so uh no it's that's a question that I can't that's a question that I can't confidently answer but I have a couple confidently answer but I have a couple of ideas the first is that sometimes of ideas the first is that sometimes when they charge things what they're when they charge things what they're charging for is essentially their time charging for is essentially their time so when work with some gurus they will so when work with some gurus they will do spiritual practices on your behalf so do spiritual practices on your behalf so it's basically like Outsourcing a it's basically like Outsourcing a portion of your spiritual portion of your spiritual grinding um that's wait so like it's grinding um that's wait so like it's like Bluetooth spiritualism how does like Bluetooth spiritualism how does that work yes pretty crazy yeah it's that work yes pretty crazy yeah it's crazy right so so if if I were to ask crazy right so so if if I were to ask you squeaks if you wanna imagine you you squeaks if you wanna imagine you wanted to like make a work of art or you wanted to like make a work of art or you wanted to like have a garden like you wanted to like have a garden like you can Outsource that labor and the can Outsource that labor and the Outsourcing spiritual labor I think is a Outsourcing spiritual labor I think is a possibility so that's one piece of it
19:02 – 20:02
possibility so that's one piece of it okay a second piece of it is that okay a second piece of it is that sometimes there are uh certain objects sometimes there are uh certain objects which are rare and materially valuable which are rare and materially valuable so for example like if you get a yantra so for example like if you get a yantra which is like a mystical symbol often which is like a mystical symbol often times it'll be uh it'll be made of a times it'll be uh it'll be made of a precious metal and so the price that the precious metal and so the price that the guru charges as crazy as it sounds guru charges as crazy as it sounds economically varies with like the the economically varies with like the the price of gold or the price of silver so price of gold or the price of silver so that's the second piece the third thing that's the second piece the third thing and this is the the big one is that and this is the the big one is that um a lot of it is about the ego in the um a lot of it is about the ego in the faith of the faith of the recipient so like when I have when I recipient so like when I have when I let's say I have like a $100 and when I let's say I have like a $100 and when I say to myself I'm going to spend $50 of say to myself I'm going to spend $50 of my $100 on a spiritual thing I think it my $100 on a spiritual thing I think it changes something internally within me changes something internally within me so I suspect that that is a big part of so I suspect that that is a big part of it it but why do they charge so much I'm not but why do they charge so much I'm not sure because you know like that it's
20:02 – 21:02
sure because you know like that it's sort of like the same argument of like a sort of like the same argument of like a lot of hustle culture Bros like it be lot of hustle culture Bros like it be like sign up for my course and it's like sign up for my course and it's expensive and if you don't pay for it it expensive and if you don't pay for it it means you're not fully bought in so means you're not fully bought in so don't waste my time you know I it's like don't waste my time you know I it's like it's almost an impossible thing to break it's almost an impossible thing to break through because you it logically makes through because you it logically makes sense but it's like yeah but like if it sense but it's like yeah but like if it was that revolutionary why is it so was that revolutionary why is it so expensive so I don't know but uh so I I expensive so I don't know but uh so I I I think there are a lot of attitudes I think there are a lot of attitudes around money and Worth right so so I I around money and Worth right so so I I think for me like and this is a a big think for me like and this is a a big part of what I've learned over the last part of what I've learned over the last couple years is like the importance of couple years is like the importance of faith I don't mean Faith as in like faith I don't mean Faith as in like believing in a particular God what I believing in a particular God what I mean is mean is that see when that see when you it's it's hard it's kind of hard to you it's it's hard it's kind of hard to explain but when you take the plunge explain but when you take the plunge that's what it was for me there's a that's what it was for me there's a drastic change to the way that you drastic change to the way that you approach your practice practice and when approach your practice practice and when I'm sort of sitting there from the I'm sort of sitting there from the perspective
21:02 – 22:02
perspective of being the judge right I'm judging of being the judge right I'm judging whether this is okay or not okay anytime whether this is okay or not okay anytime you judge judgment you judge judgment requires an understanding of something requires an understanding of something right in order to judge something I have right in order to judge something I have to say this is good or this is bad which to say this is good or this is bad which means I have to have a certain means I have to have a certain impression of it does that make sense uh impression of it does that make sense uh you can't judge without knowledge but I you can't judge without knowledge but I feel like you if something doesn't make feel like you if something doesn't make logical sense then even if you don't logical sense then even if you don't understand it you can judge it like if I understand it you can judge it like if I was like Dr K like I could just make up was like Dr K like I could just make up some random [ __ ] that doesn't exist and some random [ __ ] that doesn't exist and then you would inherently judge it even then you would inherently judge it even though if you're not a subject expert though if you're not a subject expert totally agree totally agree I I I'm just totally agree totally agree I I I'm just saying that there's judgment there's a saying that there's judgment there's a second part of this sure sure sure right second part of this sure sure sure right so your judgment is based on logic fine so your judgment is based on logic fine it's based on that's my point is that it's based on that's my point is that you can't make a judgment without you can't make a judgment without knowledge sure okay I agreed yeah so now knowledge sure okay I agreed yeah so now there's a certain problem which is that there's a certain problem which is that if you have knowledge your receptivity if you have knowledge your receptivity to new knowledge goes down
22:02 – 23:02
sure right so if I if I have to explain to my Indian parents why arranged to my Indian parents why arranged marriage is not a good idea yeah that's marriage is not a good idea yeah that's going to be an uphill battle because going to be an uphill battle because they have a preconceived notion yes does they have a preconceived notion yes does that make sense yes so then now here's that make sense yes so then now here's the tricky thing so if knowledge gets in the tricky thing so if knowledge gets in the way of the acquisition of more the way of the acquisition of more knowledge there's a really great analogy knowledge there's a really great analogy of this that's like an old meditation of this that's like an old meditation analogy about you know there's a student analogy about you know there's a student who comes to his teacher and he's who comes to his teacher and he's studied with like a lot of different studied with like a lot of different people and the teacher is trying to people and the teacher is trying to teach him stuff and then the student is teach him stuff and then the student is like but this guy said this and this guy like but this guy said this and this guy said this and this guy said this and so said this and this guy said this and so the the teacher says bring me two cups the the teacher says bring me two cups bring me a cup of water and a cup of bring me a cup of water and a cup of milk and he says okay now take the cup milk and he says okay now take the cup of milk and pour it into the cup of of milk and pour it into the cup of water and the student is like it's gonna water and the student is like it's gonna that's not going to work and he's like that's not going to work and he's like just do it so he starts adding the milk just do it so he starts adding the milk and then everything overflows and so the and then everything overflows and so the cup the teacher is like look it's fine cup the teacher is like look it's fine if you want to learn from me but the if you want to learn from me but the first thing you've got to do is empty first thing you've got to do is empty your cup your cup right remove your preconceived notions right remove your preconceived notions if you want to understand something and
23:02 – 24:02
if you want to understand something and that's absolutely true from like the B that's absolutely true from like the B hugest lesson one of the biggest parts hugest lesson one of the biggest parts of Psychiatry is being able to do that of Psychiatry is being able to do that when a patient walks into my office and when a patient walks into my office and says hey I'm suicidal one of the hardest says hey I'm suicidal one of the hardest things to do is to remove all of my things to do is to remove all of my understanding of what life is what's understanding of what life is what's good about life what's fun about life good about life what's fun about life why life is worth living and really try why life is worth living and really try to understand this person's perspective to understand this person's perspective and the more that we have our own and the more that we have our own cognitive biases the harder it is to cognitive biases the harder it is to learn sure learn sure so if we are judging that means we have so if we are judging that means we have knowledge if we have knowledge it is knowledge if we have knowledge it is harder to receive the teacher's teaching harder to receive the teacher's teaching okay now here's where things get really okay now here's where things get really hard there is a scale of difficulty of hard there is a scale of difficulty of understanding in spirituality so there understanding in spirituality so there are some things that are easy to are some things that are easy to understand and some things that are understand and some things that are really really hard to understand MH and really really hard to understand MH and the harder things to understand require the harder things to understand require a very empty a very empty cup so if you want to understand like
24:02 – 25:02
cup so if you want to understand like for example you know for example you know then yeah some of these weird esoteric then yeah some of these weird esoteric Concepts that don't make logical sense Concepts that don't make logical sense then you have to be as empty as possible then you have to be as empty as possible and to be as empty as possible you have and to be as empty as possible you have to have a lot of faith so you're like to have a lot of faith so you're like moving you're you're moving in a moving you're you're moving in a direction without a knowledge of what direction without a knowledge of what you're going to gain and this is where you're going to gain and this is where things become really difficult the more things become really difficult the more logic you have the more you have a logic you have the more you have a preconceived notion the harder it is to preconceived notion the harder it is to understand so there's something weird understand so there's something weird going on with faith where like the more going on with faith where like the more faith you have and the more ignorant you faith you have and the more ignorant you have the more you surrender the easier have the more you surrender the easier it is to to proceed along the spiritual it is to to proceed along the spiritual path the problem is that the more faith path the problem is that the more faith you have the more you surrender MH the you have the more you surrender MH the more ripe you are for plucking by abuse more ripe you are for plucking by abuse of gurus yeah yeah right so that's what of gurus yeah yeah right so that's what makes it really challenging and I think makes it really challenging and I think that like the pre prerequisites to that like the pre prerequisites to success are exactly the prerequisites to
25:02 – 26:02
success are exactly the prerequisites to getting screwed mhm and that's getting screwed mhm and that's challenging for sure then how do you challenging for sure then how do you work on unn work on unn knowledging is that something that's knowledging is that something that's even achievable because I feel like even achievable because I feel like could you explain how that is like do could you explain how that is like do you like do you have to go through you like do you have to go through exercises where you like because I feel exercises where you like because I feel like no matter how many spiritual like no matter how many spiritual practices you do or no matter how much practices you do or no matter how much meditation or you know Puja or whatever meditation or you know Puja or whatever you do you're still going to have no you do you're still going to have no matter what what an matter what what an unshakable inside voice that's like this unshakable inside voice that's like this is [ __ ] that you just have it's is [ __ ] that you just have it's impossible to fight against I I I I impossible to fight against I I I I don't think so so so like for example don't think so so so like for example like if if if you were to do a so I like if if if you were to do a so I think that key it's it's actually pretty think that key it's it's actually pretty simple so the first thing is that a lot simple so the first thing is that a lot of these what I like about this of these what I like about this meditative tradition is it is practice meditative tradition is it is practice focused and Method focused and Method focused so when you for example when you focused so when you for example when you get initiated into a mantra you just get initiated into a mantra you just chant the Mantra right so your teacher chant the Mantra right so your teacher says chant the Mantra every day for like
26:02 – 27:02
says chant the Mantra every day for like one one year and that voice will be there year and that voice will be there doubting or whatever but when you are doubting or whatever but when you are actually chanting the Mantra The Voice actually chanting the Mantra The Voice will go away because you're focused on will go away because you're focused on chanting the Mantra and then as you chanting the Mantra and then as you chant the Mantra The Voice May crop up chant the Mantra The Voice May crop up let's say it takes you 21 minutes to let's say it takes you 21 minutes to chant the Mantra 108 times The Voice chant the Mantra 108 times The Voice will crop up out of the other outside of will crop up out of the other outside of those 21 minutes The Voice will crop up those 21 minutes The Voice will crop up and you learn to just ignore it and then and you learn to just ignore it and then what happens is as you chant the Mantra what happens is as you chant the Mantra more and more and more and as you gain more and more and more and as you gain experience experience will come with experience experience will come with knowledge new knowledge new knowledge right so as you do reps of knowledge right so as you do reps of something as I play a video I think oh something as I play a video I think oh this video game is [ __ ] if I ignore that this video game is [ __ ] if I ignore that voice for some amount of time and I voice for some amount of time and I start to play the video game and I start to play the video game and I really just focus on playing the video really just focus on playing the video game yeah and focus is really important game yeah and focus is really important because if you don't have Focus what'll because if you don't have Focus what'll happen is while you are playing the happen is while you are playing the video game your mind will be making video game your mind will be making there's a separate one half of your mind there's a separate one half of your mind is playing the video game half of your is playing the video game half of your mind is judging oh this game is not as
27:02 – 28:02
mind is judging oh this game is not as good as bg3 this game is not as good as good as bg3 this game is not as good as Super Mario 64 this game is different Super Mario 64 this game is different from this I wish it were like wow it from this I wish it were like wow it needs to be this way so you're like needs to be this way so you're like constantly judging while you are engaged constantly judging while you are engaged in an experience this is also why dating in an experience this is also why dating is a mess because now anytime you go on is a mess because now anytime you go on a date someone is not with you they are a date someone is not with you they are judging you constantly oh this person judging you constantly oh this person could be this way they could be this way could be this way they could be this way my ex was like this I need my partner to my ex was like this I need my partner to be more like this I need you how much be more like this I need you how much money do you make like all it's just money do you make like all it's just constant judgment so you're not with constant judgment so you're not with someone you're not with the experience someone you're not with the experience yeah so the more focused you are like yeah so the more focused you are like literally as you were one-pointed there literally as you were one-pointed there is no space for is no space for judgment and so all of that past judgment and so all of that past knowledge starts to disappear while you knowledge starts to disappear while you are doing the practice and then you will are doing the practice and then you will gain certain gain certain insights which then will get you closer insights which then will get you closer to hopefully truth yeah I think I'm just to hopefully truth yeah I think I'm just bringing my own preconceived notions bringing my own preconceived notions right right now un breakable because I I feel like now un breakable because I I feel like I've tried a lot of meditation I've I've tried a lot of meditation I've tried uh like Transcendental Meditation
28:02 – 29:02
tried uh like Transcendental Meditation and I've tried like prayers and all this and I've tried like prayers and all this stuff and it feels really great for 30 stuff and it feels really great for 30 minutes and then you're out and about minutes and then you're out and about and then all that stuff washes away it's and then all that stuff washes away it's not it it feels very temporary in my not it it feels very temporary in my experience have you had a teacher uh experience have you had a teacher uh yeah I went to bvar so that's like the yeah I went to bvar so that's like the extent of my teaching which is like extent of my teaching which is like every week we would have a basically a every week we would have a basically a parent volunteer and a guru yeah so you parent volunteer and a guru yeah so you haven't had what do you mean by Guru uh haven't had what do you mean by Guru uh we would have someone like uh in our we would have someone like uh in our area who like was um area who like was um trained um okay from India and and what trained um okay from India and and what what is the frequency and duration of what is the frequency and duration of your meditation your meditation practice when I so this was post when I practice when I so this was post when I was a kid I used to meditate every day was a kid I used to meditate every day for 30 minutes for how long 30 minutes for 30 minutes for how long 30 minutes for how many how what period of time oh for how many how what period of time oh for two years and so every day for 30 for two years and so every day for 30 minutes what kind of minutes what kind of meditation uh well the I got into it by meditation uh well the I got into it by using one of those apps but then I using one of those apps but then I started doing it in silence and then uh
29:02 – 30:02
started doing it in silence and then uh I tried doing Transcendental Meditation I tried doing Transcendental Meditation it's like you say there's like this it's like you say there's like this person who assigned me like a word yep person who assigned me like a word yep and it was like a very Silicon Valley and it was like a very Silicon Valley esque so so then I tried that um and esque so so then I tried that um and then uh and then yeah and then I gave up then uh and then yeah and then I gave up on it okay yeah so I I'm not hearing on it okay yeah so I I'm not hearing that you had a good teacher no I did not that you had a good teacher no I did not have a good teacher so I I think um I have a good teacher so I I think um I think your teacher needs to understand think your teacher needs to understand Nan yog first of all right so I think Nan yog first of all right so I think the first thing so this is what I mean the first thing so this is what I mean maybe this is just I'm I'm projecting a maybe this is just I'm I'm projecting a little bit here but so my the person who little bit here but so my the person who got me into meditation it started with a got me into meditation it started with a two-hour walk every day for 30 days or two-hour walk every day for 30 days or was no meditating he was just like was no meditating he was just like asking me questions about things and I asking me questions about things and I would ask him questions I would be like would ask him questions I would be like you know what's the [ __ ] point and you know what's the [ __ ] point and he's like what a great he's like what a great question right and and so what was question right and and so what was really interesting is that really interesting is that like um and then he did some weird Jedi like um and then he did some weird Jedi mind trick where like I would ask him
30:02 – 31:02
mind trick where like I would ask him some some question and like so on on Monday he'd question and like so on on Monday he'd give me some practice and he's like try give me some practice and he's like try doing this thing and then on Tuesday I'd doing this thing and then on Tuesday I'd come with a question he's like okay I come with a question he's like okay I understand your question just keep doing understand your question just keep doing the practice and then on Wednesday I'd the practice and then on Wednesday I'd come back and I'd be like oh this is come back and I'd be like oh this is really interesting because this practice really interesting because this practice that I did I discovered this and he's that I did I discovered this and he's like is that your answer and I was like like is that your answer and I was like yeah that was my answer how the [ __ ] yeah that was my answer how the [ __ ] what is going on here so I think in your what is going on here so I think in your case a big part of it is going to be is case a big part of it is going to be is not just meditating just for the [ __ ] not just meditating just for the [ __ ] sake of it it's like what is the purpose sake of it it's like what is the purpose of meditation for you why should you of meditation for you why should you there's no reason to meditate for you there's no reason to meditate for you that's number one okay interesting I that's number one okay interesting I never I I mean my understanding like the never I I mean my understanding like the what was what was helpful for me was what was what was helpful for me was sitting in silence for 30 minutes what's sitting in silence for 30 minutes what's helpful about that it it felt like I helpful about that it it felt like I could file away my thoughts where like could file away my thoughts where like because you know how like I don't know because you know how like I don't know what this is gonna sound a little hocus what this is gonna sound a little hocus Hocus Pocus but when I like I've noticed Hocus Pocus but when I like I've noticed I'm walking in my daily life there's I'm walking in my daily life there's sort of an
31:02 – 32:02
sort of an underlying experiencer in my head okay underlying experiencer in my head okay that's someone who's like oh you know that's someone who's like oh you know like someone's in the elevator with me I like someone's in the elevator with me I better stand a certain way or like better stand a certain way or like something that's guiding my actions and something that's guiding my actions and so there's like one degree of fogginess so there's like one degree of fogginess between what I'm doing and what's in my between what I'm doing and what's in my head but when I started meditating it head but when I started meditating it felt like all of these prior things that felt like all of these prior things that I'm subconsciously thinking about I'm subconsciously thinking about whether I recognize it or not not is whether I recognize it or not not is filed away so I'm just more comfortable filed away so I'm just more comfortable being silent and being in the presence being silent and being in the presence of other of other people that was something that helped me people that was something that helped me when I'm quietly meditating none of this when I'm quietly meditating none of this like going and doing making sure I get like going and doing making sure I get the sticker in my B vard book to do like the sticker in my B vard book to do like theum J or whatever you know like but it theum J or whatever you know like but it was just being quiet for 30 minutes was just being quiet for 30 minutes allowed my brain to like have you ever allowed my brain to like have you ever like defragged your computer that's sort like defragged your computer that's sort of like the image I have where it's like of like the image I have where it's like it's going through my disc and cleaning it's going through my disc and cleaning it up it up okay okay so I'm confused so it sounded like the
32:02 – 33:02
so I'm confused so it sounded like the meditation was helpful for you it was meditation was helpful for you it was helpful for me but then I realize when I helpful for me but then I realize when I don't meditate like it it it's like that don't meditate like it it it's like that and then when I stop like a few days and then when I stop like a few days later I have to like it wipes clean like later I have to like it wipes clean like I have to keep it's like it then that I have to keep it's like it then that becomes part of my daily ritual um and becomes part of my daily ritual um and what do you think about that how do you what do you think about that how do you feel about that uh it's it's good I just feel about that uh it's it's good I just stopped do it for some reason I think I stopped do it for some reason I think I just had bad experience with silicon just had bad experience with silicon like Transcendental Meditation honestly like Transcendental Meditation honestly and then I just have been too lazy to go and then I just have been too lazy to go back back but yeah so I'm a bit but yeah so I'm a bit confused how can I huh yeah how could I confused how can I huh yeah how could I be more clear what is so so you're be more clear what is so so you're saying that first of all that there's saying that first of all that there's some experiencer and that you have a some experiencer and that you have a cloud of thoughts yeah and the cloud of cloud of thoughts yeah and the cloud of thoughts make it hard for you to thoughts make it hard for you to participate in life in a Joyful Way participate in life in a Joyful Way mhm and I I'm a bit confused by this one
33:02 – 34:02
mhm and I I'm a bit confused by this one degree of fog what does that degree of fog what does that mean what it basically means is this is mean what it basically means is this is where I said hocus fcus where it feels where I said hocus fcus where it feels like I want to draw an analogy for you like I want to draw an analogy for you do you mind if I think for a second do you mind if I think for a second that's fine like do you know when you're alone in a room like you don't think of in a room like you don't think of yourself being perceived right okay but yourself being perceived right okay but the second and and this is why I draw it the second and and this is why I draw it to my elevator analogy which I just made to my elevator analogy which I just made up but the second someone comes into up but the second someone comes into that room and looks at you instantly that room and looks at you instantly your thoughts Escape your own self and your thoughts Escape your own self and you're like oh how am I being perceived you're like oh how am I being perceived then you start micro adjusting your then you start micro adjusting your clothes you start standing a certain way clothes you start standing a certain way you start you know uh you know you just you start you know uh you know you just start you just start to look at yourself start you just start to look at yourself through someone else's eyes and what I'm through someone else's eyes and what I'm trying to say is there that is due to trying to say is there that is due to like a haziness of like a haziness of oneself that I've realized that I have
34:02 – 35:02
oneself that I've realized that I have so what I'm trying to say is meditating so what I'm trying to say is meditating allows me to explore myself a little bit allows me to explore myself a little bit more so that I when I am see when I am more so that I when I am see when I am with someone or when I am in a group I with someone or when I am in a group I feel confident in my internal being feel confident in my internal being where I don't have to feel like I need I where I don't have to feel like I need I have a need for micro adjusting or have a need for micro adjusting or whatever so that's whatever so that's something I have no clue something I have no clue I've got no idea that's the magic of it I've got no idea that's the magic of it i' I think it's like and if I was to i' I think it's like and if I was to sort of logically you know try to look sort of logically you know try to look at it my thinking is um it just like uh at it my thinking is um it just like uh when you are in a silent room it allows when you are in a silent room it allows you to process prior traumas or prior you to process prior traumas or prior experiences that you have uh in a way experiences that you have uh in a way that make it like cleans your inside uh that make it like cleans your inside uh spiritually so that when uh someone else spiritually so that when uh someone else is with you you feel just more confident is with you you feel just more confident I don't know how to explain it but I don't know how to explain it but that's the that's my best attempt at that's the that's my best attempt at logically logically explaining give me a second does that explaining give me a second does that make sense or was that just jargon oh no
35:02 – 36:02
make sense or was that just jargon oh no makes a lot of sense okay good we're makes a lot of sense okay good we're gonna learn a couple of things so let's gonna learn a couple of things so let's understand one or two things okay understand one or two things okay so when you so when you perceive perception of another's perceive perception of another's attention mhm okay so when someone looks attention mhm okay so when someone looks at you this triggers something in your at you this triggers something in your brain called self- referen processing so brain called self- referen processing so so when you when someone else looks at so when you when someone else looks at you it triggers you seeing yourself you it triggers you seeing yourself through other people's eyes oh my go through other people's eyes oh my go that's yeah exactly exactly right yeah that's yeah exactly exactly right yeah um and then what happens is is you can um and then what happens is is you can see this triggers affective systems so see this triggers affective systems so what this means is this will trigger what this means is this will trigger emotions this will trigger thoughts and emotions this will trigger thoughts and this will trigger bodily responses now this will trigger bodily responses now you're adjusting your shirt you pull you're adjusting your shirt you pull your your finger which has been so far your your finger which has been so far up your nose now gets pulled out yeah up your nose now gets pulled out yeah right so all kind of behaviors that we right so all kind of behaviors that we do pissing in the shower like whatever
36:02 – 37:02
do pissing in the shower like whatever you know eating a eating a BLT when you know eating a eating a BLT when we're taking a dump like whatever we're taking a dump like whatever whatever degenerate behaviors that we whatever degenerate behaviors that we normally do in silence right then normally do in silence right then someone walks into the stall and you put someone walks into the stall and you put down the BLT and take absolutely right down the BLT and take absolutely right and then and then you ask him to hold it and then and then you ask him to hold it while you wipe and right I'm sorry Anthony we can stop screen sharing screen sharing thank you buddy um so th this is what thank you buddy um so th this is what happens yeah okay so then if you sort of happens yeah okay so then if you sort of think about it like what's happening is think about it like what's happening is your the focus of your mind now develops your the focus of your mind now develops just like we were saying a parallel just like we were saying a parallel track now you are not in the moment track now you are not in the moment you're not enjoying the BLT you are you're not enjoying the BLT you are thinking about what this person thinks thinking about what this person thinks about you and this literally triggers a about you and this literally triggers a Cascade of Cascade of emotions cognitive processing emotions cognitive processing reactions but the M thing is that you reactions but the M thing is that you are not in the moment anymore because are not in the moment anymore because now you're thinking about
37:02 – 38:02
now you're thinking about them so when you meditate you say that them so when you meditate you say that when I'm in a room by myself it removes when I'm in a room by myself it removes this level of fog so what I would say is this level of fog so what I would say is that if we think about like your that if we think about like your attention right so if we think about attention right so if we think about 100% of your attention your RAM when you 100% of your attention your RAM when you meditate is 100% on your experience of meditate is 100% on your experience of things the moment that someone else things the moment that someone else enters the door this triggers a Cascade enters the door this triggers a Cascade of thoughts and emotions and things like of thoughts and emotions and things like that that are somewhat unpleasant yeah that that are somewhat unpleasant yeah the other thing that's going on here the other thing that's going on here this is kind of I'm going to try to this is kind of I'm going to try to explain it is that see when you meditate explain it is that see when you meditate your impression of who you are comes your impression of who you are comes only from you MH when you are with other only from you MH when you are with other people your impression of who you are is people your impression of who you are is fractured between your experience and fractured between your experience and their perception of your experience so their perception of your experience so if I go to school with a Ninja Turtles if I go to school with a Ninja Turtles backpack and I'm excited because I like backpack and I'm excited because I like Ninja Turtles I wanted this Ninja Ninja Turtles I wanted this Ninja Turtles backpack I'm so I'm happy I'm
38:02 – 39:02
Turtles backpack I'm so I'm happy I'm like I got my Ninja Turtles back and the like I got my Ninja Turtles back and the second kids start making fun of me this second kids start making fun of me this is very confusing yeah now there's a is very confusing yeah now there's a part of me that loves it and there's a part of me that loves it and there's a part of me that like doesn't love it and part of me that like doesn't love it and I'm getting really confused and so then I'm getting really confused and so then over time what starts to happen is we over time what starts to happen is we start to compromise Who We Are we try to reconcile this internal thing we try to reconcile this internal thing with this external impression and we with this external impression and we slowly this we understand right this is slowly this we understand right this is why you were getting tons of slack why you were getting tons of slack messages because you compromised what messages because you compromised what you wanted for the sake of the world you wanted for the sake of the world around you and as you compromise in that around you and as you compromise in that way generally speaking it leads to way generally speaking it leads to unhappiness because I'm the most happy unhappiness because I'm the most happy when I'm with my Ninja Turtles backpack when I'm with my Ninja Turtles backpack yeah yeah so if we think about the yeah yeah so if we think about the purpose of meditation or not the purpose purpose of meditation or not the purpose a purpose for you is to more solidly a purpose for you is to more solidly connect with that internal sense of who
39:02 – 40:02
connect with that internal sense of who you are but this is important not in a you are but this is important not in a way that's temporary but in a way that way that's temporary but in a way that you carry with you throughout the day you carry with you throughout the day yeah so as you carry it with you as yeah so as you carry it with you as people start to judge you you people start to judge you you acknowledge that judgment you can even acknowledge that judgment you can even acknowledge like the necessity of I acknowledge like the necessity of I don't know if this kind of makes sense don't know if this kind of makes sense but you can acknowledge the necessity of but you can acknowledge the necessity of playing the game but your internal playing the game but your internal investment is is not there MH right so I investment is is not there MH right so I can look at the situation and say I need can look at the situation and say I need to shave today because I'm going to to shave today because I'm going to stream I don't care about streaming but stream I don't care about streaming but I recognize that if I don't shave there I recognize that if I don't shave there will be some consequences I don't have will be some consequences I don't have to be emotionally invested I don't have to be emotionally invested I don't have to but there's a difference between to but there's a difference between recognizing okay I need to wear a recognizing okay I need to wear a tie when I was an tie when I was an intern one day I I didn't like ties I intern one day I I didn't like ties I don't I still don't like ties and so one don't I still don't like ties and so one day one of my superiors was like hey you day one of my superiors was like hey you need to wear a tie every day and I was need to wear a tie every day and I was like I don't like ties they're like I don't like ties they're unsanitary here's a paper that shows how unsanitary here's a paper that shows how they transmit infection and they were they transmit infection and they were like I don't care you need to wear a tie
40:02 – 41:02
like I don't care you need to wear a tie because that's what we do and I was like because that's what we do and I was like okay fine right so there's a difference okay fine right so there's a difference between playing the game and oh my God between playing the game and oh my God this person said I need to wear a tie this person said I need to wear a tie I'm doing a terrible job that affective I'm doing a terrible job that affective response it can be controlled right so response it can be controlled right so then I can look at the situation and say then I can look at the situation and say dispassionately I need to do this kind dispassionately I need to do this kind of thing but I don't have to get butt of thing but I don't have to get butt hurt about it yeah so as we get more hurt about it yeah so as we get more grounded in our sense of self we stop grounded in our sense of self we stop getting butt hurt about people being getting butt hurt about people being upset with upset with us because normally what people do is us because normally what people do is they get some weird like reaction where they get some weird like reaction where I instead of getting butt hurt I'm going I instead of getting butt hurt I'm going to get angry at you or there's some to get angry at you or there's some weird [ __ ] psychological stuff that weird [ __ ] psychological stuff that Happ psychological defense mechanisms Happ psychological defense mechanisms narcissism whatever I have to reject narcissism whatever I have to reject this person's criticism I can't receive this person's criticism I can't receive their criticism but I can receive the their criticism but I can receive the criticism and not get but butt hurt criticism and not get but butt hurt about so what I'm hearing the value that about so what I'm hearing the value that you gained was something in that way but you gained was something in that way but that you had difficulty translating it that you had difficulty translating it over yes and it worked only for the 30
41:02 – 42:02
over yes and it worked only for the 30 minutes that you did it it worked for minutes that you did it it worked for like in an hour it was like you know how like in an hour it was like you know how like it was there was like an Afterglow like it was there was like an Afterglow period a little bit where I was like oh period a little bit where I was like oh I feel so at peace and I feel good and I feel so at peace and I feel good and then I'll read some stupid [ __ ] and i' then I'll read some stupid [ __ ] and i' be like Oh I'm way back in my in my own be like Oh I'm way back in my in my own self so so that's where I'd say that a self so so that's where I'd say that a targeted meditation practice that helps targeted meditation practice that helps you discover your true nature and you discover your true nature and or helps you find emptiness within you or helps you find emptiness within you would help you way more than whatever would help you way more than whatever you were doing yeah right so so I think you were doing yeah right so so I think the the meditation in your case is first the the meditation in your case is first of all there's got to be more of all there's got to be more conversations like this where like conversations like this where like someone is teaching you the value of someone is teaching you the value of what you're doing and or and there's a what you're doing and or and there's a lot more pieces to it I'm kind of speed lot more pieces to it I'm kind of speed running a little bit because hey it's running a little bit because hey it's you that's me I'm speedrunner um but you that's me I'm speedrunner um but then there's a lot more questions about then there's a lot more questions about you know even why you should meditate you know even why you should meditate like what do you want yes because like what do you want yes because meditation is ultimately a tool to help meditation is ultimately a tool to help you understand yourself and until you understand yourself and until there's like a you know a goal that there's like a you know a goal that you're invested in that once you figure
42:02 – 43:02
you're invested in that once you figure out what the goal is then you figure out out what the goal is then you figure out the appropriate practice and then you do the appropriate practice and then you do it and then hopefully you see the it and then hopefully you see the benefits of it this is where Faith benefits of it this is where Faith becomes important because there's going becomes important because there's going to be a lag time between the expectation to be a lag time between the expectation when I tell you hey squeaks if you do when I tell you hey squeaks if you do this practice it will help you feel this practice it will help you feel comfortable in yourself there's going to comfortable in yourself there's going to be a lag time between that benefit and be a lag time between that benefit and the the work right so you're saying oh the the work right so you're saying oh hey you said it was going to do this hey you said it was going to do this it's not doing that yeah you need to it's not doing that yeah you need to keep doing it interesting also a good keep doing it interesting also a good good teacher will modify your practice good teacher will modify your practice based on what challenges you're having based on what challenges you're having if you say hey like I can't concentrate if you say hey like I can't concentrate long enough then they'll tell you do long enough then they'll tell you do this and do this and things like that so this and do this and things like that so I I think it's you know I think it could I I think it's you know I think it could help you a lot and help you a lot and also so what yeah right it's like it's also so what yeah right it's like it's up to you up to you I find it interesting Dr K I've never I find it interesting Dr K I've never heard someone ever say the phrase like
43:02 – 44:02
heard someone ever say the phrase like meditate with a goal in mind like I've meditate with a goal in mind like I've I've heard gurus and all and many people I've heard gurus and all and many people say to me like you should never meditate say to me like you should never meditate with an end result in mind that you with an end result in mind that you should meditate and find what those end should meditate and find what those end results results are does that make sense have you heard are does that make sense have you heard that yes I've heard that so let's that yes I've heard that so let's understand two or three things okay okay understand two or three things okay okay so I think that one of the biggest so I think that one of the biggest problems with meditation in the world problems with meditation in the world today is that 99% of meditation teachers today is that 99% of meditation teachers are like pretty bad at it I know it's a are like pretty bad at it I know it's a judgmental statement but I think bvar is judgmental statement but I think bvar is a great example so I grew up for those a great example so I grew up for those can y'all can you explain what bvar is can y'all can you explain what bvar is yeah well I'll explain it through my yeah well I'll explain it through my experience of bvar as a kid basically a experience of bvar as a kid basically a lot of Indian parents will send their lot of Indian parents will send their kids often who are in the United States kids often who are in the United States to a school every week and all the to a school every week and all the parents will teach them like Hinduism parents will teach them like Hinduism and you get stickers in your book if you and you get stickers in your book if you like memorize like certain prayers uh like memorize like certain prayers uh and um basically it would be like we'd and um basically it would be like we'd go every week and I wouldn't complain so
44:02 – 45:02
go every week and I wouldn't complain so I could have a sleepover with my friends I could have a sleepover with my friends and play a melee that's what I really and play a melee that's what I really remember was like if you do all the remember was like if you do all the steps you're rewarded with video games steps you're rewarded with video games uh and so bobar was just like it's like uh and so bobar was just like it's like religious school for an hour on a religious school for an hour on a Saturday um yeah so I had a similar Saturday um yeah so I had a similar experience of like Sunday school and I experience of like Sunday school and I think it really turned me off from think it really turned me off from spiritual spiritual practice first of all there wasn't a practice first of all there wasn't a whole lot of spirituality in it right whole lot of spirituality in it right there wasn't like it and and so I think there wasn't like it and and so I think what happens is that you have people who what happens is that you have people who have good have good intentions which is that we want to intentions which is that we want to teach kids to meditate but they're not teach kids to meditate but they're not actually qualified meditation teachers actually qualified meditation teachers right so so if you really look at it and right so so if you really look at it and I think this is also a big problem like I think this is also a big problem like in in Hinduism where we're like you know in in Hinduism where we're like you know you have some of these organizations you have some of these organizations that will Mass produce that will Mass produce swamis yeah yeah Amazon swamis yeah yeah Amazon Swami it's because they have like a a a Swami it's because they have like a a a mission which I'm not disagreeing with mission which I'm not disagreeing with the mission I think it's like if they're the mission I think it's like if they're like okay we want to you know help the
45:02 – 46:02
like okay we want to you know help the world so we're going to mass-produce world so we're going to mass-produce spiritual Masters yeah but I I think if spiritual Masters yeah but I I think if you look at the Zen tradition it's 30 you look at the Zen tradition it's 30 years of training and you don't even years of training and you don't even graduate at the end whether you graduate graduate at the end whether you graduate or not depends on your spiritual or not depends on your spiritual aptitude and some people can be there aptitude and some people can be there for seven years and they can graduate for seven years and they can graduate some people be there for 30 years and some people be there for 30 years and you don't graduate so what we have in you don't graduate so what we have in the world today is I pay money to become the world today is I pay money to become a certified meditation a certified meditation teacher and after I pay my money and I teacher and after I pay my money and I show up to class for 12 weeks no one is show up to class for 12 weeks no one is saying you have not attained the states saying you have not attained the states of Consciousness necessary to be a of Consciousness necessary to be a qualified teacher I'm not giving you a qualified teacher I'm not giving you a certificate no one does that no yeah so certificate no one does that no yeah so what's what's happening is that there's what's what's happening is that there's no measure of aptitude before someone no measure of aptitude before someone becomes a meditation teacher yeah so becomes a meditation teacher yeah so what that means is that a lot of people what that means is that a lot of people are teaching meditation without are teaching meditation without understanding some of the fundamentals understanding some of the fundamentals and this is where we get some of this and this is where we get some of this crap like this yeah there that statement crap like this yeah there that statement is is true but I think it applies to a very
46:02 – 47:02
true but I think it applies to a very small this is what I was saying earlier small this is what I was saying earlier about the value of faith it took me 20 about the value of faith it took me 20 years to realize that and understand years to realize that and understand that and what I what my experience with that and what I what my experience with meditation teachers is heavily biased me meditation teachers is heavily biased me where a good I mean this is not just where a good I mean this is not just meditation right so when I'm like meditation right so when I'm like teaching at at you know medical students teaching at at you know medical students I don't teach the same thing to every I don't teach the same thing to every student it's like if this person doesn't student it's like if this person doesn't understand the difference between OCD understand the difference between OCD and ocpd I'm not going to give them the and ocpd I'm not going to give them the same platitudes that I would give same platitudes that I would give someone who's trying to understand the someone who's trying to understand the difference between depression depressive difference between depression depressive disorder and bipolar disorder yeah so disorder and bipolar disorder yeah so there's what what's happening is we are there's what what's happening is we are making cookie cutter meditation teachers making cookie cutter meditation teachers who are inducted into certain techniques who are inducted into certain techniques who don't know how to modify their who don't know how to modify their teachings based on what the pupil meets teachings based on what the pupil meets and then when I hear something that's and then when I hear something that's contrary to that like a record play I'm contrary to that like a record play I'm like that's wrong because a teacher once like that's wrong because a teacher once said it but you're so right it it said it but you're so right it it doesn't you know it doesn't apply yeah doesn't you know it doesn't apply yeah so then going to develop a lot of so then going to develop a lot of attitudes toward meditation which are attitudes toward meditation which are logical because when you have a bunch of
47:02 – 48:02
logical because when you have a bunch of you know not crappy crappy is not the you know not crappy crappy is not the right word but non aptitude based right word but non aptitude based teachers passion-based teachers dhic teachers passion-based teachers dhic teachers amateures like fine experience teachers amateures like fine experience ton of experience it's not that they ton of experience it's not that they can't teach everybody but with the can't teach everybody but with the difference between you know what makes a difference between you know what makes a good teacher or a bad teacher is not good teacher or a bad teacher is not that you can't teach it's that who is that you can't teach it's that who is the crappiest student in the class and the crappiest student in the class and how are much are you able to elevate how are much are you able to elevate them yeah it's it's so funny it reminds them yeah it's it's so funny it reminds me of like an analogy of required me of like an analogy of required reading growing up kind of ruins reading reading growing up kind of ruins reading when you're older where like they make when you're older where like they make you read the most boring [ __ ] ever and you read the most boring [ __ ] ever and then of course people don't want to read then of course people don't want to read books because they associate it with books because they associate it with like you know tests and assignments and like you know tests and assignments and stuff so it's it's it's very similar in stuff so it's it's it's very similar in that light you have a bad experience that light you have a bad experience with meditation because of a PO teaching with meditation because of a PO teaching you'll always see it and I think if you you'll always see it and I think if you went through some TM based whatever went through some TM based whatever Silicon Valley thing like you know I Silicon Valley thing like you know I think that so I I used to be a lot more think that so I I used to be a lot more negative towards TM than I am now but I negative towards TM than I am now but I think TM is a really good example and
48:02 – 49:02
think TM is a really good example and there's some weird metaphysical stuff there's some weird metaphysical stuff going on there of like just generation going on there of like just generation after generation of imparting spiritual after generation of imparting spiritual knowledge that I think is basically been knowledge that I think is basically been watered down because that initial shaki watered down because that initial shaki from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to his his from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to his his initial disciples it kind of wains over initial disciples it kind of wains over time unless you like boost it up so it's time unless you like boost it up so it's like I gave you a down payment but like I gave you a down payment but unless you pay off the house and you unless you pay off the house and you sell it you know you start earning sell it you know you start earning rental income on it you can't pay make rental income on it you can't pay make the down payment for someone else so the the down payment for someone else so the down payment shrinks and shrinks and down payment shrinks and shrinks and shrinks and shrinks that's my shrinks and shrinks that's my understanding of it yeah no I mean even understanding of it yeah no I mean even in the context of like doing it through in the context of like doing it through Silicon Valley or work is it just Silicon Valley or work is it just perverts the meaning behind all the perverts the meaning behind all the meditation in my opinion but sure I meditation in my opinion but sure I think that's a valid opinion yeah okay think that's a valid opinion yeah okay well I I would hope to change gears if well I I would hope to change gears if you're okay yeah um I did reach out to you're okay yeah um I did reach out to you to talk to you specifically about you to talk to you specifically about racism South Asian racism on the
49:02 – 50:02
racism South Asian racism on the internet being normalized and I did want internet being normalized and I did want to ask you your experience have you seen to ask you your experience have you seen that Trend or is that something that I'm that Trend or is that something that I'm just making up like as because we're you just making up like as because we're you know we're completely on opposite know we're completely on opposite spectrums of content creation and so I'm spectrums of content creation and so I'm curious what your experience has been um curious what your experience has been um on things like Twitter or you know I on things like Twitter or you know I don't use Twitter oh [ __ ] that solves a don't use Twitter oh [ __ ] that solves a problem and just like that thanks for the EP that's the end of the episode but I mean that's the end of the episode but I mean I I think I think my exp like what's I I think I think my exp like what's been your experience like what what been your experience like what what difference does it make what my difference does it make what my experience is well because I'm curious experience is well because I'm curious to see if that this is just something to see if that this is just something that lives in a silo or that affects that lives in a silo or that affects someone like you who may be a little someone like you who may be a little less connected on social media and if less connected on social media and if not that's that's interesting to me as not that's that's interesting to me as well because I know like my experience well because I know like my experience has been like in the past year has been like in the past year specifically specifically uh like Twitter has been so anti-indian uh like Twitter has been so anti-indian without any push back and I have and I
50:02 – 51:02
without any push back and I have and I feel like I'm walking on this balance feel like I'm walking on this balance beam of I don't want to seem like I beam of I don't want to seem like I don't want to go on one side where I'm don't want to go on one side where I'm like you know I feel what I'm basically like you know I feel what I'm basically saying is I'm pulled in two directions saying is I'm pulled in two directions one is like you have a responsibility to one is like you have a responsibility to say something about it and the other say something about it and the other side is you don't want to be seen as side is you don't want to be seen as like social justice Warriors squeaks like social justice Warriors squeaks like sensitive squeak like sensitive squeak so like that's sort of the balance beam so like that's sort of the balance beam that I feel like I'm walking across so I that I feel like I'm walking across so I thought what a great opportunity to talk thought what a great opportunity to talk to another fellow Indian about what to another fellow Indian about what their experience would be and how to their experience would be and how to tackle that yeah so so tell me what what tackle that yeah so so tell me what what have you seen on the internet have you seen on the internet recently oh man like on Twitter Dr K it recently oh man like on Twitter Dr K it is a Minefield of anti-indian hatred and is a Minefield of anti-indian hatred and I don't know if you've seen this news I don't know if you've seen this news story of this uh Young fella on Doge who story of this uh Young fella on Doge who like tweeted out anti-indian sentiment like tweeted out anti-indian sentiment and uh got fired and then got brought and uh got fired and then got brought got brought back you know like onto Doge got brought back you know like onto Doge but I feel like it's rampant right now but I feel like it's rampant right now and there's no push back whatsoever
51:02 – 52:02
and there's no push back whatsoever besides like people from India on besides like people from India on Twitter like B basically unfortunately Twitter like B basically unfortunately making a fools fools of themselves sure so I have I have some info about what is on my Twitter okay I think you're fine this is go go ahead hi how's it going got step hear ahead hi how's it going got step hear you oh hey how are you good I have a you oh hey how are you good I have a friend who I think you should meet by friend who I think you should meet by the way got like three but I have like a the way got like three but I have like a front runner right I won't tell you front runner right I won't tell you which one um I think is I manage our which one um I think is I manage our socials socials well not super actively but I'd say it's well not super actively but I'd say it's less than 1% but whenever there's like less than 1% but whenever there's like one piece of venom one piece of venom on the internet that will catch but it on the internet that will catch but it it's not like they're talking to us a
52:02 – 53:02
it's not like they're talking to us a lot of times they're just lot of times they're just talking into the void and then there's talking into the void and then there's like I don't know the bottom feeders like I don't know the bottom feeders that like to catch that but it's it's so that like to catch that but it's it's so easy to just be like H I don't know that easy to just be like H I don't know that I care for your opinion you know I've I care for your opinion you know I've I've never seen a comment from someone I've never seen a comment from someone whose opinion that I really care about whose opinion that I really care about where I'm like like oh sucks to suck you where I'm like like oh sucks to suck you know it's I know it's I mean I did want to say now I can't hear mean I did want to say now I can't hear anything okay now we can talk anything okay now we can talk [ __ ] well I I would just like I imagine [ __ ] well I I would just like I imagine what it's like to be young a young what it's like to be young a young Indian person on the internet and I Indian person on the internet and I remember back in the day like you remember back in the day like you wouldn't reveal that you are Indian on wouldn't reveal that you are Indian on the internet because you just be the internet because you just be barraged by hateful messages but now you barraged by hateful messages but now you know I I imagine what it would like if I know I I imagine what it would like if I was young and reading these comments was young and reading these comments without any push back and with like without any push back and with like thousands and thousands of likes so I
53:02 – 54:02
thousands and thousands of likes so I sort of feel like yeah I discount these sort of feel like yeah I discount these losers opinions but I I feel an losers opinions but I I feel an obligation to be like what they're obligation to be like what they're saying is not right you know so that's saying is not right you know so that's sort of like the balance that I'm trying sort of like the balance that I'm trying to walk across where it's like I want to to walk across where it's like I want to have I want to be a voice but I don't have I want to be a voice but I don't want to overstay my welcome if that want to overstay my welcome if that makes sense I I don't think this I agree makes sense I I don't think this I agree with you it's not right but like so much with you it's not right but like so much of like what's going on now I feel like of like what's going on now I feel like if you're if you're attractive you know what I mean you get attractive you know what I mean you get you don't see a lot of the worst of it you don't see a lot of the worst of it but I feel like for those that are but I feel like for those that are unattractive and I just right right it unattractive and I just right right it boils down Tock suck honestly but like boils down Tock suck honestly but like it it's just worse for folks who are not it it's just worse for folks who are not conventionally attractive I think conventionally attractive I think whether you're Indian or whatever yeah whether you're Indian or whatever yeah um um but I see unattractive Indian people but I see unattractive Indian people have it way worse than have it way worse than unattractive other people yeah no all of
54:02 – 55:02
unattractive other people yeah no all of us here we're hot as hell so we don't us here we're hot as hell so we don't have anything hot yeah I told you I told have anything hot yeah I told you I told you I could have SS if I wanted that's conversation for a different day wait so can because you different day wait so can because you called I'm not gonna drama drama how called I'm not gonna drama drama how does that make you feel doct K it makes does that make you feel doct K it makes me feel alive yeah okay good and well me feel alive yeah okay good and well basically what we were saying is like basically what we were saying is like the exper that like do you do you feel a the exper that like do you do you feel a pressure to like if you see something pressure to like if you see something about the group that you're from do you about the group that you're from do you feel pressure to like stand up and say feel pressure to like stand up and say like you guys are cringe and that's bad like you guys are cringe and that's bad or or not so much or or not so much no I do not feel pressure can you no I do not feel pressure can you explain why
55:02 – 56:02
what's the purpose of that the purpose for that is for like if another Indian for that is for like if another Indian person is watching or in your audience person is watching or in your audience they would at least I would hope that they would at least I would hope that the streamer I watch who we look we you the streamer I watch who we look we you know we'd go to the same Indian parties know we'd go to the same Indian parties or in the same WhatsApp groups and be or in the same WhatsApp groups and be like what is being said is not normal like what is being said is not normal and like let's not pretend like these and like let's not pretend like these stereotypes are harmful and they're bad stereotypes are harmful and they're bad and they're cringe and so like at least and they're cringe and so like at least I would hope like if I was a young I would hope like if I was a young Indian boy playing melee and bvr and I Indian boy playing melee and bvr and I watch Like squeaks and I'd be like oh watch Like squeaks and I'd be like oh man like it's so like the common man like it's so like the common rhetoric is so hateful towards people rhetoric is so hateful towards people that look like me at least I can look to that look like me at least I can look to squeaks to say that chastise that that squeaks to say that chastise that that that's wrong uh because I feel like the that's wrong uh because I feel like the silence is like it's it's almost like silence is like it's it's almost like it's so weird um yeah so what uh like it's so weird um yeah so what uh like even political discourse do okay like even political discourse do okay like I'm talking about fellow streamers on I'm talking about fellow streamers on this website they will say things that this website they will say things that are so like regressive and I don't even
56:02 – 57:02
are so like regressive and I don't even get political ever on my stream but even get political ever on my stream but even I am like itching I'm like is no one I am like itching I'm like is no one gonna say anything about this [ __ ] don't gonna say anything about this [ __ ] don't we is it isn't there a responsibility we is it isn't there a responsibility from one of us to be like this guy's a from one of us to be like this guy's a dumbass you know and what happens when dumbass you know and what happens when you do that then people I feel like can you do that then people I feel like can sigh then people are like oh thank God sigh then people are like oh thank God like someone said that because otherwise like someone said that because otherwise like I feel like everyone's such a like I feel like everyone's such a coward um I feel like it's just a it's coward um I feel like it's just a it's an act of cowardice where like people an act of cowardice where like people are looking at their wallet instead of are looking at their wallet instead of their heart sorry to be cringe but like their heart sorry to be cringe but like it's not even beneficial to a stream it it's not even beneficial to a stream it but it's like someone will say someone but it's like someone will say someone will spread like some really hurtful will spread like some really hurtful hateful stuff and everyone will just be hateful stuff and everyone will just be like oh you know like that's just the like oh you know like that's just the name of the game it's rage bait he's name of the game it's rage bait he's doing well View countwise and it's like doing well View countwise and it's like is no one going to be like this guy's an is no one going to be like this guy's an idiot idiot and but when you say this guy is an and but when you say this guy is an idiot what does this person do what does idiot what does this person do what does the person that you're addressing do he
57:02 – 58:02
the person that you're addressing do he goes they just go a like that's crazy goes they just go a like that's crazy nothing but but maybe they're more nothing but but maybe they're more thoughtful because otherwise they have thoughtful because otherwise they have no push back whatsoever so so I I think no push back whatsoever so so I I think there's absolutely so a couple of I there's absolutely so a couple of I don't know exactly what you and gruy don't know exactly what you and gruy talked about but a couple talked about but a couple of a couple of things that I would just of a couple of things that I would just start with so the first is that I I start with so the first is that I I think that intolerance in general think that intolerance in general is being selected for on the internet is being selected for on the internet right so like it's just being selected right so like it's just being selected for so is anti-indian or anti-south for so is anti-indian or anti-south Asian hate increasing yes is anti-jew Asian hate increasing yes is anti-jew hate increasing yes is anti-white male hate increasing yes is anti-white male hate increasing absolutely is hate increasing absolutely is anti-christian sentiment increasing anti-christian sentiment increasing absolutely is anti-liberal sentiment absolutely is anti-liberal sentiment increasing yes is anti-conservative increasing yes is anti-conservative sentiment increasing sentiment increasing yes right like people feel persecuted yes right like people feel persecuted gay people feel persecuted by people gay people feel persecuted by people feel persecuted the most because they
58:02 – 59:02
feel persecuted the most because they the gay people that they try to date are the gay people that they try to date are really upset that they're you know i' really upset that they're you know i' I've seen this firsthand so I think just I've seen this firsthand so I think just intolerance on the whole is increasing intolerance on the whole is increasing sure but I would say the intolerance sure but I would say the intolerance isn't equal I feel like a lot of people isn't equal I feel like a lot of people who victimize themselves is a response who victimize themselves is a response to other people actually being victims to other people actually being victims like for example like straight like like like for example like straight like like remember like people would say all lives remember like people would say all lives matter in response to Black Liv matter matter in response to Black Liv matter you can say oh look there's intolerance you can say oh look there's intolerance towards other people but it's not what towards other people but it's not what I'm trying to say is inequality I'm trying to say is inequality shouldn't be a catchall term for shouldn't be a catchall term for everybody like there are certain people everybody like there are certain people who are who are persecuted more I'm not who are who are persecuted more I'm not I'm not saying that it's equal I'm just I'm not saying that it's equal I'm just saying that intolerance on the whole is saying that intolerance on the whole is rising sure right so is a is a global rising sure right so is a is a global thing yeah now like I'm I'm all thing yeah now like I'm I'm all for I I mean I I don't know if I'm about for I I mean I I don't know if I'm about to step into politically hot water here to step into politically hot water here but I think like when we say save the but I think like when we say save the rainforest it's not like we're saying rainforest it's not like we're saying screw all the other trees it's that this screw all the other trees it's that this particular set of trees is being
59:02 – 60:02
particular set of trees is being destroyed at a rate that is greater than destroyed at a rate that is greater than the other trees to save the rainforest the other trees to save the rainforest is a what about not all is a what about not all rainforest right so save all trees like rainforest right so save all trees like which I think is a good sentiment and I which I think is a good sentiment and I think part of the reason that that s all think part of the reason that that s all lives matter sentiment is so big is lives matter sentiment is so big is because we don't acknowledge a lot of because we don't acknowledge a lot of the hardships that majorities often the hardships that majorities often times face right so like like and and times face right so like like and and this is where the inequality piece comes this is where the inequality piece comes in but you say these people get screwed in but you say these people get screwed more than those people I don't that's a more than those people I don't that's a really hard it's a really hard stance to really hard it's a really hard stance to take like just because more people get take like just because more people get diagnosed with breast cancer than diagnosed with breast cancer than testicular cancer doesn't mean that we testicular cancer doesn't mean that we should screw all the people with should screw all the people with testicular cancer right like they testicular cancer right like they deserve care too there's a certain and I deserve care too there's a certain and I I have no personally I have no idea I have no personally I have no idea how to measure or quantify the degree of how to measure or quantify the degree of inequality yeah well I mean I I feel inequality yeah well I mean I I feel like there has to be sort of a judgment
60:02 – 61:02
like there has to be sort of a judgment call though like I'm saying like some call though like I'm saying like some people are literally can't get like people are literally can't get like healthcare you know like and how do you healthcare you know like and how do you make what are the variables that go into make what are the variables that go into that that judgment who's elected into office judgment who's elected into office okay what else and and how how do you okay what else and and how how do you what's the what's the equation public sentiment plus who's equation public sentiment plus who's elected hold on how do you define public elected hold on how do you define public sentiment like who people vote for okay sentiment like who people vote for okay yeah so you're using voting in one yeah so you're using voting in one country and what else is a variable in country and what else is a variable in the the equation um laws being passed okay what about Twitter posts passed okay what about Twitter posts Twitter post yeah Twitter posts if Twitter post yeah Twitter posts if there's no push back people people who there's no push back people people who are being like hurt to any group right are being like hurt to any group right so how do you quantify how do you so how do you quantify how do you quantify how do you know which group quantify how do you know which group gets the most hate on Twitter and then
61:02 – 62:02
gets the most hate on Twitter and then do you also include Reddit do you also do you also include Reddit do you also include Instagram how do you quantify include Instagram how do you quantify those things what shows up on my feet I those things what shows up on my feet I guess but I feel like it's a very common guess but I feel like it's a very common thing I this is exactly the problem thing I this is exactly the problem right so I think and there's there's right so I think and there's there's data to support this that I think we're data to support this that I think we're not living in the same world that's why not living in the same world that's why intolerance is increasing because no one intolerance is increasing because no one is living with the same set of information like everyone is living with their personally constructed so this is their personally constructed so this is a huge problem this is why the world is a huge problem this is why the world is going to hell we all have a cognitive going to hell we all have a cognitive bias we all have a tendency towards bias we all have a tendency towards narcissism narcissism mhm now what's happened is that the mhm now what's happened is that the external World used to be the same and external World used to be the same and the only reason that we disagree so like the only reason that we disagree so like let's say you and I are roommates and let's say you and I are roommates and like hey squeaks you need to do the like hey squeaks you need to do the dishes more and you're like I do dishes dishes more and you're like I do dishes more than 50% of the time the the dishes more than 50% of the time the the dishes in the sink are a fixed variable that
62:02 – 63:02
in the sink are a fixed variable that both of us are there's one reality but both of us are there's one reality but there's different cognitions that shape there's different cognitions that shape that reality now even the sensory input that reality now even the sensory input that people are getting is drastically that people are getting is drastically different you asked me the question hey different you asked me the question hey are you seeing a bunch of anti- uh are you seeing a bunch of anti- uh anti-south Asian hate on Twitter and I anti-south Asian hate on Twitter and I was like I don't use Twitter so now was like I don't use Twitter so now we've got not only do we have a we've got not only do we have a fractured reality fractured reality plus fractured reality fractured reality plus cognitive bias plus a internet that cognitive bias plus a internet that selects for emotional engagement not selects for emotional engagement not truth not equality I just feel like people don't have that savviness I think people are have that savviness I think people are on Twitter and people are seeing it on Twitter and people are seeing it because what's pushed to the top is because what's pushed to the top is intolerance yeah so that's that's where intolerance yeah so that's that's where my dilemma starts sure so so you asked my dilemma starts sure so so you asked me me question I think your original question question I think your original question was I forgot what your original question was I forgot what your original question was it was basically like have you seen
63:02 – 64:02
was it was basically like have you seen arise so I think intolerance on the arise so I think intolerance on the whole is increasing I think I'm sure whole is increasing I think I'm sure that there is some way of measuring the that there is some way of measuring the degree of inequality that people degree of inequality that people face I'm sure that there's some way but face I'm sure that there's some way but that that variable is like [ __ ] that that variable is like [ __ ] complex very complex how do you wait complex very complex how do you wait number of dickpics sent in sexual number of dickpics sent in sexual harassment yeah harassment yeah versus uh unfair custody agreements in versus uh unfair custody agreements in divorce how do you wait those two divorce how do you wait those two variables those are both realities how variables those are both realities how do you rate female harassment of using do you rate female harassment of using voice coms in online video games against voice coms in online video games against false accusations of sexual assault that false accusations of sexual assault that are not innocent until proven guilty are not innocent until proven guilty it's usually guilty until proven it's usually guilty until proven innocent and even then the damage is innocent and even then the damage is done I don't know how to waight those done I don't know how to waight those two variables against each other two variables against each other I I I I don't know I and and a lot of I I I I don't know I and and a lot of people can have a lot of strong thoughts people can have a lot of strong thoughts about okay but these people are
64:02 – 65:02
about okay but these people are suffering more I have some intuitive suffering more I have some intuitive judgments that I don't think racism is judgments that I don't think racism is equal across the world I do think some equal across the world I do think some people suffer more from racist attitudes people suffer more from racist attitudes than others I do think South Asian hate than others I do think South Asian hate is on on the rise we're in a really is on on the rise we're in a really dangerous spot in the United States dangerous spot in the United States yeah and I think the number one reason yeah and I think the number one reason for that is is because there has been a for that is is because there has been a strong strong selection bias of South strong strong selection bias of South Asians to the West a huge problem of Asians to the West a huge problem of brain drain MH when I was in my intern brain drain MH when I was in my intern orientation at Massachusetts General orientation at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard medical school Hospital and Harvard medical school there were 150 people in the room 40 to there were 150 people in the room 40 to 50 of them were South Asian yeah and 50 of them were South Asian yeah and this is an institution that is liberal this is an institution that is liberal this is an institution that absolutely this is an institution that absolutely accounts for race this is an institution accounts for race this is an institution that is trying to implement that is trying to implement Dei and this is an institution if you Dei and this is an institution if you look at like you know MCAT scores we
65:02 – 66:02
look at like you know MCAT scores we have to if you're Brown you have to have to if you're Brown you have to score 15 to 20% higher than the average score 15 to 20% higher than the average student in order to get into medical student in order to get into medical school and we're still overrepresented school and we're still overrepresented which I think is good I think like the which I think is good I think like the the situation there was was good so I I the situation there was was good so I I think that we we're we've got a Target think that we we're we've got a Target on our back the same the way that Jews on our back the same the way that Jews had a Target on their back in in Nazi had a Target on their back in in Nazi Germany which was that we're we're Germany which was that we're we're economically very successful economically very successful and so that like it's easy to classify and so that like it's easy to classify us like Indian doctors right us like Indian doctors right haaha but I I think that that hate is haaha but I I think that that hate is coming for sure and even I don't have to coming for sure and even I don't have to be on Twitter to like know that so I I be on Twitter to like know that so I I think the hate is real the think the hate is real the Discrimination is real my attitude Discrimination is real my attitude towards it is first of all I think it's towards it is first of all I think it's like there's a lot of like there's a lot of Shaky Ground from a logic or Shaky Ground from a logic or intellectual standpoint about inequality intellectual standpoint about inequality of hate I'm because I I really want to of hate I'm because I I really want to know like how do you qu like if you're know like how do you qu like if you're saying that South Asians get more hate saying that South Asians get more hate than white people I need to see data to than white people I need to see data to support that for me to support that
66:02 – 67:02
support that for me to support that conclusion I think so is not something conclusion I think so is not something I'm willing to accept because the world I'm willing to accept because the world that you perceive is different from the that you perceive is different from the world that other people perceive you may world that other people perceive you may not be privy to all of the anti-white not be privy to all of the anti-white hate you won't be by definition that hate you won't be by definition that doesn't even include cognitive bias sure doesn't even include cognitive bias sure so now this goes back to your original so now this goes back to your original question of like do I feel motivated to question of like do I feel motivated to act defend no because I think that that act defend no because I think that that doesn't solve the problem I think that doesn't solve the problem I think that makes the problem worse makes the problem worse usually I'm not saying that there isn't usually I'm not saying that there isn't a role of activism or there isn't a role a role of activism or there isn't a role I'm glad that people do that and I am I'm glad that people do that and I am the beneficiary of people who Advocate the beneficiary of people who Advocate on my behalf so I had a friend growing on my behalf so I had a friend growing up we were and then we sort of parted up we were and then we sort of parted well not parted ways we went down well not parted ways we went down different paths we were like friends in different paths we were like friends in like middle school and high school and like middle school and high school and then he sort of went like the activist then he sort of went like the activist route and then I went the yoga route mhm route and then I went the yoga route mhm so we're both so we're both Hindu but we're very different kinds and Hindu but we're very different kinds and I'm grateful that he does all of this I'm grateful that he does all of this like activism work because I'm the
67:02 – 68:02
like activism work because I'm the beneficiary of people who open their beneficiary of people who open their mouths and and combat this stuff right mouths and and combat this stuff right so I'm not saying it's bad but if you're so I'm not saying it's bad but if you're asking me what do I do I think that this asking me what do I do I think that this is where like what I've learned is first is where like what I've learned is first of all understanding where other people of all understanding where other people is are coming from is a really really is are coming from is a really really big step I think that's what's big step I think that's what's deficient we spend way too much time deficient we spend way too much time time trying to convince people of our time trying to convince people of our point of view instead of understanding point of view instead of understanding theirs and I think that like even with theirs and I think that like even with the stuff like Israel and Palestine and the stuff like Israel and Palestine and like you know Gaza and all this kind of like you know Gaza and all this kind of mess like you know I mean I don't follow mess like you know I mean I don't follow drama but all of this stuff between drama but all of this stuff between Ethan kleene and Ethan kleene and Hassan has like even crossed my feet Hassan has like even crossed my feet it's just it's so prevalent yeah and it's just it's so prevalent yeah and these guys used to host a podcast these guys used to host a podcast together and like what the hell happened together and like what the hell happened there now there's a Content nuke and there now there's a Content nuke and now's radiation off and we're all now's radiation off and we're all experiencing it that's everyone's feet experiencing it that's everyone's feet right but but I mean I think I think right but but I mean I think I think it's shocking that these two people used it's shocking that these two people used to be friends used to be allies and
68:02 – 69:02
to be friends used to be allies and there's an issue that is so divisive there's an issue that is so divisive that it's torn them apart and turned that it's torn them apart and turned turned them into bloodthirsty enemies turned them into bloodthirsty enemies and what I think is really fascinating and what I think is really fascinating from like I don't even know what the from like I don't even know what the term is a societal perspective term is a societal perspective psychological perspective is no wonder psychological perspective is no wonder things are so bad there right we saw it things are so bad there right we saw it happen in front of our own eyes that two happen in front of our own eyes that two people were hosting a podcast together people were hosting a podcast together and this conflict is so difficult and so and this conflict is so difficult and so intractable that it tears these two intractable that it tears these two people apart and now they're like mortal people apart and now they're like mortal enemies and we saw it happen if every enemies and we saw it happen if every anyone is wondering why is Gaza a mess anyone is wondering why is Gaza a mess like just look at this what the hell like just look at this what the hell happened there I for me the solution and happened there I for me the solution and this is also where my skill set is is to this is also where my skill set is is to understand that right to understand understand that right to understand because I think generally speaking when because I think generally speaking when someone is really pissed off and I I I I someone is really pissed off and I I I I mean I deal with a ton of racism I've mean I deal with a ton of racism I've dealt with racism since I was growing up dealt with racism since I was growing up in the medical school admissions process in the medical school admissions process like all kinds of all kinds of ways mhm like all kinds of all kinds of ways mhm you know like I was at an airport in you know like I was at an airport in this one city in Texas there 120 people
69:02 – 70:02
this one city in Texas there 120 people in line for security two cops walk past in line for security two cops walk past 62 people to me the brown person and 62 people to me the brown person and pull me out for a random security pull me out for a random security classic yeah right and like but I'm not classic yeah right and like but I'm not upset by that it's you know upset by that it's you know like okay like and I I think here's like okay like and I I think here's another big thing that I think a lot of another big thing that I think a lot of people like have a lot of difficulty people like have a lot of difficulty with I think most people do the best with I think most people do the best that they know how to that they know how to do I think most people who are racist do I think most people who are racist this is not a problem of like hatred this is not a problem of like hatred it's a problem of ignorance because if it's a problem of ignorance because if you sit down and you talk to these you sit down and you talk to these people like why do you think all these people like why do you think all these Indian people are bad you know like Indian people are bad you know like what's wrong like I mean I've had people what's wrong like I mean I've had people you know there's different kinds of you know there's different kinds of racism so South Asians also receive like racism so South Asians also receive like model minority racism where it's like model minority racism where it's like Asian kids are good at math so if you're Asian kids are good at math so if you're the one kid not the one kid if you're the one kid not the one kid if you're one of the 50% of the population who's one of the 50% of the population who's not good at math you get judged
70:02 – 71:02
not good at math you get judged incredibly incredibly harshly yeah true right and and I mean harshly yeah true right and and I mean we joke about it but at the very we joke about it but at the very beginning you're like you can call me beginning you're like you can call me doctor squeaks everyone makes memes doctor squeaks everyone makes memes about how we're the same person yeah but about how we're the same person yeah but there's there's an undercurrent of Truth there's there's an undercurrent of Truth there where there's some subconscious there where there's some subconscious assignment to value that I went to assignment to value that I went to Harvard Medical School and you didn't Harvard Medical School and you didn't like it's nuts yeah yeah crazy like it's nuts yeah yeah crazy it's crazy I mean so like that's why and it's crazy I mean so like that's why and forgive me for pushing back a little I'm forgive me for pushing back a little I'm I'm just a little confused I'm a little I'm just a little confused I'm a little confused on um some of what you've said confused on um some of what you've said specifically specifically like so you started off by saying that like so you started off by saying that you uh you know first you're not going you uh you know first you're not going to accept that there's a rise of to accept that there's a rise of inequality without data that you also inequality without data that you also have to look at you know different other have to look at you know different other groups and stuff like that groups and stuff like that which is fair and I can accept that but which is fair and I can accept that but what I'm confused is then later you what I'm confused is then later you acknowledge there is a rise of acknowledge there is a rise of intolerance and then you say we
71:02 – 72:02
intolerance and then you say we shouldn't do anything because no I shouldn't do anything because no I didn't say we shouldn't do anything but didn't say we shouldn't do anything but or like you feel no obligation to speak or like you feel no obligation to speak out or can you can you help me out or can you can you help me understand no so we got to be precise understand no so we got to be precise with our language yeah yeah I want I with our language yeah yeah I want I don't want to I don't want to misc don't want to I don't want to misc characterize what you're saying so I characterize what you're saying so I didn't say we shouldn't do anything I'm didn't say we shouldn't do anything I'm doing a lot okay but I'm just not doing doing a lot okay but I'm just not doing the what you you asked for do you think the what you you asked for do you think you should do this thing which is speak you should do this thing which is speak out against them I don't I have not seen out against them I don't I have not seen that to be the most effective tool at my that to be the most effective tool at my disposal so I don't do that because I disposal so I don't do that because I think generally speaking when someone think generally speaking when someone comes at you with a racist remark or comes at you with a racist remark or calling like people [ __ ] call each calling like people [ __ ] call each other out all the time like this person other out all the time like this person is calling out this person this I it's is calling out this person this I it's not clear to me that that has any not clear to me that that has any positive effect so then what does have a positive effect so then what does have a positive effect like what have you what positive effect like what have you what have you found to be a net positive so let me think can I think for a second of
72:02 – 73:02
course I think if you can teach people to be better humans these problems will to be better humans these problems will get way better in general so I think if get way better in general so I think if you look at problems like you look at problems like racism they are born out of in my racism they are born out of in my opinion ignorance not always ignorance opinion ignorance not always ignorance sometimes there is malice that is based sometimes there is malice that is based on negativity like hurt people hurt on negativity like hurt people hurt people right so it's like it's really people right so it's like it's really easy to say oh like you know Indian easy to say oh like you know Indian people have it or South Asians have it people have it or South Asians have it worse or black people have it worse than worse or black people have it worse than white people but it's really hard for a white people but it's really hard for a white person who is now unemployed white person who is now unemployed because of something and they're hurting because of something and they're hurting in some way and they direct their malice in some way and they direct their malice towards a group of other people yeah and towards a group of other people yeah and I think we see this a lot with like the I think we see this a lot with like the Dei stuff right so like like and I think Dei stuff right so like like and I think it's it's scary you know the the the it's it's scary you know the the the results of this election I think speak
73:02 – 74:02
results of this election I think speak to a silent majority which I saw back in to a silent majority which I saw back in 2016 by the way that there's there's a 2016 by the way that there's there's a group of people who are not are being group of people who are not are being like not being given the opportunity to like not being given the opportunity to air their air their grievances yes so when when men say I'm grievances yes so when when men say I'm having it tough the most common response having it tough the most common response is you have it better than than women is you have it better than than women which doesn't do anything to improve which doesn't do anything to improve that man's situation sure and often that man's situation sure and often times when we look at things like male times when we look at things like male privilege when we talk about male privilege when we talk about male privilege there are absolutely some privilege there are absolutely some statistical things where men are statistical things where men are privileged privileged 100% but often times those statistics if 100% but often times those statistics if we look at things like you know average we look at things like you know average income a a lot of the reason that the income a a lot of the reason that the income is that way is because there is a income is that way is because there is a small group of people who earn a small group of people who earn a ton sure and that I don't know if you're ton sure and that I don't know if you're how into statistics you are but you know how into statistics you are but you know the whole point I work in finance yeah the whole point I work in finance yeah so mean and Med right what's the so mean and Med right what's the difference median is is less resistant
74:02 – 75:02
difference median is is less resistant to outliers but when people talk about to outliers but when people talk about in income equality no one is talking in income equality no one is talking about median median everyone's talking about median median everyone's talking about me so we're literally the about me so we're literally the statistical methods that we are using statistical methods that we are using open ourselves up to outliers so when open ourselves up to outliers so when you've got like you know the the like you've got like you know the the like Mark Zuckerberg Jeff Bezos like Bill Mark Zuckerberg Jeff Bezos like Bill Gates Warren Buffett and and Elon Musk Gates Warren Buffett and and Elon Musk right when you've got those like five right when you've got those like five dudes the top how much are they skewing dudes the top how much are they skewing things and this is what you see as a things and this is what you see as a psychiatrist like I see men getting psychiatrist like I see men getting [ __ ] dumpstered right left and Center [ __ ] dumpstered right left and Center doesn't mean that women aren't getting doesn't mean that women aren't getting dumpstered too I agree I mean I I just dumpstered too I agree I mean I I just feel like just the framing of the feel like just the framing of the conversation is adversarial it's like conversation is adversarial it's like you're almost saying like women do well you're almost saying like women do well or men do well and like I can imagine or men do well and like I can imagine being a man who got unemployed and is being a man who got unemployed and is being told he's a piece of [ __ ] would being told he's a piece of [ __ ] would feel horrible like that's not what you feel horrible like that's not what you want to hear right so so I I don't think want to hear right so so I I don't think that I completely understand I I don't that I completely understand I I don't believe I mean so it's not that it isn't believe I mean so it's not that it isn't effective I shouldn't say that I don't effective I shouldn't say that I don't know how to engage in that kind of
75:02 – 76:02
know how to engage in that kind of action in what I believe to be a highly action in what I believe to be a highly effective way I could call people out effective way I could call people out right left and Center like I think right left and Center like I think people do stupid [ __ ] all the time but people do stupid [ __ ] all the time but do you not feel like someone watching do you not feel like someone watching you would be like oh thank God he said you would be like oh thank God he said something sure of course so isn't that a something sure of course so isn't that a net positive net positive no I think validating the feelings of no I think validating the feelings of someone in your audience does not someone in your audience does not necessarily make the world a better necessarily make the world a better place this is a huge mistake that we've place this is a huge mistake that we've made recently we've started confusing made recently we've started confusing being offended with being being offended with being injured and we've started emphasizing injured and we've started emphasizing validation over validation over Improvement what everyone wants to hear Improvement what everyone wants to hear right now is like so so I learned this right now is like so so I learned this lesson when I was talking to someone at lesson when I was talking to someone at MIT security uhhuh so back when I was MIT security uhhuh so back when I was working in emergency rooms right so so working in emergency rooms right so so one day like a a patient came in who was one day like a a patient came in who was a student in MIT and we were just a student in MIT and we were just talking like either they they came with
76:02 – 77:02
talking like either they they came with MIT security and everything was kind of MIT security and everything was kind of sorted out so I was just hanging out sorted out so I was just hanging out with the guy and we talked a little bit with the guy and we talked a little bit about safety and he's like my job is not about safety and he's like my job is not to make people feel safe it's to make to make people feel safe it's to make people safe there's a big people safe there's a big difference so I think some of these difference so I think some of these subtleties have completely been lost subtleties have completely been lost what everyone is looking for is what everyone is looking for is validation what I think is actually validation what I think is actually really scary is when people don't get really scary is when people don't get validated they will engage in a new form validated they will engage in a new form of bullying which is called cancel of bullying which is called cancel culture when you say something that culture when you say something that doesn't make me feel good I feel doesn't make me feel good I feel offended that's not the same as injured offended that's not the same as injured right when you say something that is right when you say something that is contrary to the world viiew that I hold contrary to the world viiew that I hold I demonize you and I'm going to bully I demonize you and I'm going to bully you into shutting the [ __ ] up we see you into shutting the [ __ ] up we see this a lot and I'm not saying that this a lot and I'm not saying that cancel culture doesn't have good cancel culture doesn't have good attributes to it yeah but like you know attributes to it yeah but like you know one of the things that really and I'll one of the things that really and I'll give you a simple example I know you've give you a simple example I know you've got a response but so sometimes I'll do got a response but so sometimes I'll do interviews with people who are
77:02 – 78:02
interviews with people who are considered toxic and those are some of considered toxic and those are some of the best conversations I've had and what the best conversations I've had and what really blows my mind is when I tell really blows my mind is when I tell people yeah I worked in a jail for three people yeah I worked in a jail for three months everyone is like look at you months everyone is like look at you doing working served and working with doing working served and working with all these crimin is such a noble thing all these crimin is such a noble thing that's you're right like I've worked that's you're right like I've worked with people who are not accused rapists with people who are not accused rapists who are convicted rapists MH and working who are convicted rapists MH and working with a convicted rapist makes me a hero with a convicted rapist makes me a hero but talking to an accused rapist makes but talking to an accused rapist makes me a Villain Like what me a Villain Like what right so so I I think that there's a lot right so so I I think that there's a lot of just weird like cognitive stuff going of just weird like cognitive stuff going on and for on and for me it's like having conversations with me it's like having conversations with people increasing people increasing understanding is sort of like the Avenue understanding is sort of like the Avenue that I that I take and and recognizing that really take and and recognizing that really most people are doing and this is like I
78:02 – 79:02
most people are doing and this is like I mean it's a little bit stupid honestly mean it's a little bit stupid honestly but it's what I choose to believe most but it's what I choose to believe most people are basically doing the best that people are basically doing the best that they can sure right so when someone is they can sure right so when someone is racist I mean I'm sure that there's a racist I mean I'm sure that there's a group of those people who like very group of those people who like very actively choose to be racist but I would actively choose to be racist but I would say the majority of them and this is my say the majority of them and this is my lived experience like growing up in lived experience like growing up in Texas like you know and dealing with a I Texas like you know and dealing with a I mean we we didn't eat beef growing up mean we we didn't eat beef growing up yeah or not not much anyway and so like yeah or not not much anyway and so like I got you know they're like oh I'm I got you know they're like oh I'm eating your God ha haa they just don't eating your God ha haa they just don't understand you know like these kids are understand you know like these kids are ignorant yeah um and even people who are ignorant yeah um and even people who are like the most toxic people on the planet like the most toxic people on the planet often times have histories of of trauma often times have histories of of trauma right toxicity is born from somewhere right toxicity is born from somewhere and there's I mean some subset of people and there's I mean some subset of people who are probably sociopaths who maybe who are probably sociopaths who maybe are really born with it but like that's are really born with it but like that's a very small percentage of the a very small percentage of the population definitely less than population definitely less than 5% so I think there's all kinds of like 5% so I think there's all kinds of like weird Trends and embracing
79:02 – 80:02
weird Trends and embracing fragility there's like weird you know fragility there's like weird you know differing realities at play sure all differing realities at play sure all kinds of cognitive kinds of cognitive bias and you know when I say when I call bias and you know when I say when I call someone out for something all it does is someone out for something all it does is galvanize the people that support me and galvanize the people that support me and entrench the people that oppose me mhm entrench the people that oppose me mhm but I don't I mean I I think that it's but I don't I mean I I think that it's creating more of an antagonistic and creating more of an antagonistic and poic environment where in order for one poic environment where in order for one person to win the other person has to person to win the other person has to lose and that's what we're seeing it lose and that's what we're seeing it just feels like it's it's such a what just feels like it's it's such a what you're saying makes complete sense and you're saying makes complete sense and it sounds very like noble but when the it sounds very like noble but when the other side is being so other side is being so antagonistic to meet that with no antagonistic to meet that with no friction whatsoever seems to me like friction whatsoever seems to me like lazily lazily pacifist that's what like so and then pacifist that's what like so and then like what I would also say is you know like what I would also say is you know you mention that you know you're people
80:02 – 81:02
you mention that you know you're people you know you say fragility and people you know you say fragility and people aren't uh being targeted it's like you aren't uh being targeted it's like you know what's the end result of targeted know what's the end result of targeted hate is hate is violence is that is that incorrect like violence is that is that incorrect like look at you know I'm just saying like if look at you know I'm just saying like if there's a group that is being so there's a group that is being so targeted I'm not even saying South targeted I'm not even saying South Asians we could talk about many Asians we could talk about many minorities or even white people minorities or even white people I just think that there should be a I just think that there should be a guiding voice and maybe not even calling guiding voice and maybe not even calling people out just saying like hey like people out just saying like hey like this isn't a normal thing to say okay so this isn't a normal thing to say okay so let me ask you this what's been your let me ask you this what's been your experience with uh with what experience with uh with what specifically So when you say like you specifically So when you say like you know targeted hate results in violence know targeted hate results in violence yeah that something that the that that yeah that something that the that that we need friction that there is a lazy we need friction that there is a lazy pacifism yeah in my view so like help me pacifism yeah in my view so like help me understand that I'm not don't walk back understand that I'm not don't walk back your words I'm not walking back my words
81:02 – 82:02
your words I'm not walking back my words so but like I I really want to so but like I I really want to understand you know why you think I'm a understand you know why you think I'm a lazy pacifist I'm totally fine with that lazy pacifist I'm totally fine with that oh no no I'm not calling you a lazy oh no no I'm not calling you a lazy pacifist I didn't mean it in that way pacifist I didn't mean it in that way what I'm trying to say is there's a this what I'm trying to say is there's a this is and I'm I'm very prone I myself am is and I'm I'm very prone I myself am the lazy pacifist but what I'm trying to the lazy pacifist but what I'm trying to say is if people on the common say is if people on the common conversation becomes like [ __ ] this conversation becomes like [ __ ] this group of people like you can say any group of people like you can say any group of people you could say Jews you group of people you could say Jews you could say Palestinians you can say could say Palestinians you can say Indians you can say pakistanis and if Indians you can say pakistanis and if everyone is sharing that view and it's everyone is sharing that view and it's being pushed to the top of algorithms being pushed to the top of algorithms then there should then what I find is then there should then what I find is there's this sort of implicit acceptance there's this sort of implicit acceptance by not speaking out against it and that by not speaking out against it and that okay there's a there's okay there's a there's a there's a responsibility that people a there's a responsibility that people have to say no you know what I'm not have to say no you know what I'm not going to be meeting that vital with going to be meeting that vital with vital I think that's wrong you know like vital I think that's wrong you know like I think that's a incorrect stance to I think that's a incorrect stance to have and let me explain to you why and
82:02 – 83:02
have and let me explain to you why and um you know Ed like you know try to try um you know Ed like you know try to try to have a conversation with people uh to have a conversation with people uh and I think that is very responsible but and I think that is very responsible but for a long time you know you hear people for a long time you know you hear people being so vitriolic and hateful and for a being so vitriolic and hateful and for a long time you know I've sat on my hands long time you know I've sat on my hands and I still sort of sit in my hands and I still sort of sit in my hands because I'm like I don't want to engage because I'm like I don't want to engage in that sort of stuff because it's bad in that sort of stuff because it's bad for business or or it's you know I I for business or or it's you know I I don't want to come off in a certain way don't want to come off in a certain way but I'm trying to say is like there I do but I'm trying to say is like there I do inside feel a responsibility to call out inside feel a responsibility to call out uh bad ideas or hateful ideas what what uh bad ideas or hateful ideas what what happened squeaks in your life that happened squeaks in your life that triggered the desire for this triggered the desire for this conversation ju nothing specifically conversation ju nothing specifically targeted towards me funny enough it's targeted towards me funny enough it's just the what happened is I just just the what happened is I just remember what it's like to be a kid and remember what it's like to be a kid and uh seeing an injustice that adults uh seeing an injustice that adults aren't talking about but it's funny I aren't talking about but it's funny I you know it's it's crazy I feel I you know it's it's crazy I feel I haven't been targeted at
83:02 – 84:02
haven't been targeted at all at all like I am not the victim in all at all like I am not the victim in this whatsoever but I do feel there is a this whatsoever but I do feel there is a targeting towards South Asian people and targeting towards South Asian people and so I feel like you know inside I'm you so I feel like you know inside I'm you know 40% South 40% Indian and 60% know 40% South 40% Indian and 60% speedrunner but that 40% is like ringing speedrunner but that 40% is like ringing the bell like you can't let them say the bell like you can't let them say this to you you can't let them say this this to you you can't let them say this to the uh to your group what makes you to the uh to your group what makes you feel that feel that way I have I'm not way I have I'm not sure I'm not sure I'm not sure what was the when you say some you sure what was the when you say some you said something about you know people said something about you know people passing uh standing by while Injustice passing uh standing by while Injustice was being done mhm is that something was being done mhm is that something that you that you experienced like personally uh not experienced like personally uh not really really but I've I see it on the but I've I see it on the internet and what bothers you about
84:02 – 85:02
that what bothers me is that it feels like it's like it's changing how people talk about topics changing how people talk about topics and I feel like that can often lead to and I feel like that can often lead to just a more like hateful society and I just a more like hateful society and I and I think that's like the Injustice and I think that's like the Injustice that I'm talking about like it just that I'm talking about like it just doesn't sit with me doesn't sit with me right what bothers you about it I think the Injustice of it bothers me about it like people aren't being me about it like people aren't being looked at by their merits or but rather looked at by their merits or but rather people are coming in with their people are coming in with their preconceived notion of people and preconceived notion of people and growing up if you're a kid and you hear growing up if you're a kid and you hear people say like Indian people are you people say like Indian people are you know soy whatever I don't know obviously know soy whatever I don't know obviously it doesn't affect me but for the kid it doesn't affect me but for the kid that hears that it will almost make sure that hears that it will almost make sure they turn out to be a loser it's like a they turn out to be a loser it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy if everyone in
85:02 – 86:02
self-fulfilling prophecy if everyone in their life is like you're a [ __ ] their life is like you're a [ __ ] dweeb you're a you know whatever idian dweeb you're a you know whatever idian people work in the telemarket whatever people work in the telemarket whatever but I'm trying to say is like I want to but I'm trying to say is like I want to for that kid listening to be like that's for that kid listening to be like that's not true you can be awesome Bindy are not true you can be awesome Bindy are awesome Dali is better than Christmas awesome Dali is better than Christmas like you know I want to just be like the like you know I want to just be like the voice of people being like you know have voice of people being like you know have your doll chavel it's cooler than a ham your doll chavel it's cooler than a ham sandwich you know like but you don't sandwich you know like but you don't hear that voice on the internet um and hear that voice on the internet um and so that's that's sort of where I come so that's that's sort of where I come from if that makes sense why don't you from if that makes sense why don't you hear that voice on the internet no hear that voice on the internet no Browns I think there's a lot of people Browns I think there's a lot of people it's like um I'll draw an analogy if you it's like um I'll draw an analogy if you don't mind let me know if it's too don't mind let me know if it's too contrived but I used to work in contrived but I used to work in Investment Banking and uh there was a Investment Banking and uh there was a lot of men a lot of a lot of like you lot of men a lot of a lot of like you know classic banking men and the women know classic banking men and the women that would be promoted were like trying that would be promoted were like trying to fit the mold of a man like it was
86:02 – 87:02
to fit the mold of a man like it was like look we have very masculine women like look we have very masculine women because that's the traits that we select because that's the traits that we select for in the same way with streaming what for in the same way with streaming what I've realized is a lot of the traits I've realized is a lot of the traits that are selected are very cookie cutter that are selected are very cookie cutter are very like so like a lot of Indian are very like so like a lot of Indian people often can't succeed because of people often can't succeed because of their their brownness like and you know and I hate brownness like and you know and I hate to I hate to this is just absolutely to I hate to this is just absolutely anecdotal but um you know it's just like anecdotal but um you know it's just like uh a lot of Indian streamers Dr K in the uh a lot of Indian streamers Dr K in the past would not use face cams because uh past would not use face cams because uh there were it was there was a fear of there were it was there was a fear of what people would say because they're what people would say because they're brown and I think that's [ __ ] and brown and I think that's [ __ ] and that pisses me off because being that pisses me off because being Indian's awesome how has how has being Indian's awesome how has how has being Indian affected Indian affected you uh in massive ways like I feel like you uh in massive ways like I feel like I grew up with extremely rich Rich I grew up with extremely rich Rich culture I'm very close to my family I've culture I'm very close to my family I've just like I'm just a regular Daisy just like I'm just a regular Daisy boy I you know grew up in mumai I love
87:02 – 88:02
boy I you know grew up in mumai I love Bollywood I love the music the food and Bollywood I love the music the food and I want to share it with people um and so I want to share it with people um and so like I I don't know like for I have a like I I don't know like for I have a you know lwig and Pokey we watched kbby you know lwig and Pokey we watched kbby Kushi kby gum it was a dream come true Kushi kby gum it was a dream come true and I and I imagine being a young Brown and I and I imagine being a young Brown Indian squeaks being like bro poke man Indian squeaks being like bro poke man and lwig watching kbby Kushi kbby gum is and lwig watching kbby Kushi kbby gum is mind bra boggling mind bra boggling so like I just imagine like stuff that I so like I just imagine like stuff that I do to introduce Indian culture to The do to introduce Indian culture to The Wider uh Arena of streamers is so it's Wider uh Arena of streamers is so it's very fulfilling so when I see hate for very fulfilling so when I see hate for the same minority of Indian cultures I the same minority of Indian cultures I feel like if I'm here to celebrate all feel like if I'm here to celebrate all the great Parts I have to call out some the great Parts I have to call out some of the [ __ ] too um why don't you oh of the [ __ ] too um why don't you oh I do okay I do what do you say it's like I do okay I do what do you say it's like what like if some streamer or someone what like if some streamer or someone says some stupid [ __ ] or if I read says some stupid [ __ ] or if I read something on the internet I'm like you something on the internet I'm like you know I I I get know I I I get involved and how do you do that oh I
88:02 – 89:02
involved and how do you do that oh I called them a [ __ ] idiot is that is called them a [ __ ] idiot is that is that really along the lines of what you that really along the lines of what you say yeah yeah pretty say yeah yeah pretty much I mean how help me understand the the connection between being an investment connection between being an investment banker and being banker and being Brown oh well I I wasn't making the Brown oh well I I wasn't making the direct connection I was just saying like direct connection I was just saying like in the same way I know I I mean for you in the same way I know I I mean for you like what was that Journey like what was that Journey like like uh it was what we call Brown investment uh it was what we call Brown investment bankers or failed bankers or failed doctors you know what I mean Dr K we doctors you know what I mean Dr K we call them second string uh no it was it call them second string uh no it was it was like uh uh I think a lot of Indian was like uh uh I think a lot of Indian culture focuses on hard work and that culture focuses on hard work and that and almost like the way I describe it to and almost like the way I describe it to my friends is like there's a suffer my friends is like there's a suffer currency currency in terms of employment where it's like in terms of employment where it's like if you really hate your job and you're if you really hate your job and you're suffering a lot of Indian people be like suffering a lot of Indian people be like yeah that's the cost of it like you're yeah that's the cost of it like you're that's so good and uh so that's sort of
89:02 – 90:02
that's so good and uh so that's sort of the link between like oh Investment the link between like oh Investment Banking is so miserable but that's why Banking is so miserable but that's why it's revered um in a it's revered um in a way yeah so let me just see if I'm way yeah so let me just see if I'm understanding you so so you see a lot of understanding you so so you see a lot of anti-south Asian hate anti-south Asian hate mhm you can imagine so you feel hurt by mhm you can imagine so you feel hurt by that yeah I I person like not to my own that yeah I I person like not to my own self but I feel hurt thinking about self but I feel hurt thinking about someone else seeing that hate like I someone else seeing that hate like I feel responsibility more than hurt does feel responsibility more than hurt does that make sense yeah that makes sense that make sense yeah that makes sense but I'm confused about how you're how but I'm confused about how you're how you can connect those two dots right so you can connect those two dots right so generally speaking when we feel empathy generally speaking when we feel empathy for someone else's hurt that's rooted in for someone else's hurt that's rooted in our own experience in some way so how do our own experience in some way so how do we know that getting hit in the nuts we know that getting hit in the nuts hurts like because we've been hit in the hurts like because we've been hit in the nuts nuts how do we know that heartbreak hurts how do we know that heartbreak hurts because we've been there and we know how because we've been there and we know how it sucks so what I'm curious about is it sucks so what I'm curious about is like you know what was your experience
90:02 – 91:02
like you know what was your experience with with South Asian hate sure I I with with South Asian hate sure I I would love to get into that I mean I would love to get into that I mean I just know when I was younger and it's just know when I was younger and it's something that we sort of take for something that we sort of take for granted speaking on the Dei stuff a lot granted speaking on the Dei stuff a lot of people don't know and and please of people don't know and and please share me with me your experiences when share me with me your experiences when you don't see people that look like you you don't see people that look like you on TV or represented in Media or on TV or represented in Media or anything it's like you you know you feel anything it's like you you know you feel a little isolated like there's no like a little isolated like there's no like whenever there's an Indian person in a whenever there's an Indian person in a movie it's like a classic like hello how movie it's like a classic like hello how are you you know like beater sell's in are you you know like beater sell's in the party but uh you know the fact that the party but uh you know the fact that I'm granted uh I'm so fortunate to have I'm granted uh I'm so fortunate to have a platform I'm like hopefully I a platform I'm like hopefully I represent Indian people well because represent Indian people well because growing up we didn't have any good growing up we didn't have any good representation like that's why we just representation like that's why we just Retreat into our you know K and stuff Retreat into our you know K and stuff American Western culture at least and American Western culture at least and when when people are when people direct when when people are when people direct South when the South Asian hate that you South when the South Asian hate that you see what do they say like what is it
91:02 – 92:02
see what do they say like what is it what is their representation of South what is their representation of South Asians like what do they think about Asians like what do they think about it's like they they call like they're it's like they they call like they're like smelly dirty people and like you like smelly dirty people and like you know ter like uh and they're like know ter like uh and they're like they're not very like refined they're they're not very like refined they're like terrorists like terrorists dirty you know stuff like that call dirty you know stuff like that call center worker like it's just like soy center worker like it's just like soy like I I heard this thing where it's like I I heard this thing where it's like oh like uh Indian people are like oh like uh Indian people are physically built in a different way it's physically built in a different way it's like yeah [ __ ] we're on our like yeah [ __ ] we're on our computers like yeah what the [ __ ] do you computers like yeah what the [ __ ] do you mean so this may sound kind of weird but mean so this may sound kind of weird but like everything that you said is pretty like everything that you said is pretty consistent with some of my experience consistent with some of my experience with Indian people with Indian people yes so so can can can I interject really yes so so can can can I interject really quick with what you said yes but what quick with what you said yes but what you're saying is not coming from a place you're saying is not coming from a place a vital when someone says that sort of
92:02 – 93:02
a vital when someone says that sort of the same sort of thing on the internet the same sort of thing on the internet where it is trying to be hateful that's where it is trying to be hateful that's where I take offense to it like I have where I take offense to it like I have friends who I love to introduce them to friends who I love to introduce them to Indian culture and they will poke fun Indian culture and they will poke fun but it comes from a place of love so I but it comes from a place of love so I come from a place of hate yeah so so I come from a place of hate yeah so so I think there are a couple things here one think there are a couple things here one is like what's what's your goal is it to is like what's what's your goal is it to stop the hate or is it to bolster the stop the hate or is it to bolster the person who feels attacked by the hate person who feels attacked by the hate yeah to bolster the yeah to bolster the person can you what do you mean by person can you what do you mean by bolster like so you're saying that when bolster like so you're saying that when you speak out in favor of something and you speak out in favor of something and you say Dal chavel is great or you're you say Dal chavel is great or you're there's representation because like oh I there's representation because like oh I can if I'm Brown I can be a twitch can if I'm Brown I can be a twitch streamer like I don't have to be I don't streamer like I don't have to be I don't have to be a doctor or an investigat have to be a doctor or an investigat there's like you know there's third there's like you know there's third string yeah no that's like 90 and string yeah no that's like 90 and straight Dr K you know that's like straight Dr K you know that's like coming out of the closet for Indian coming out of the closet for Indian people a Content creat H probably people a Content creat H probably starter nowadays yeah so I I think
93:02 – 94:02
starter nowadays yeah so I I think there's and so where do you think the there's and so where do you think the malice comes from the malice of the malice comes from the malice of the person posting person posting yeah I think it as you said I think you yeah I think it as you said I think you put it really well it comes from a place put it really well it comes from a place of ignorance but it also comes from a of ignorance but it also comes from a place of place of like this is what does well on the like this is what does well on the internet so I'm G to spew that sort of internet so I'm G to spew that sort of stuff okay so I think there are a couple stuff okay so I think there are a couple of things here one is that so I think if of things here one is that so I think if you want to speak up and and I like I'm you want to speak up and and I like I'm in favor of that right so like you know in favor of that right so like you know we'll post like some pictures to our we'll post like some pictures to our socials when we celebrate like holidays socials when we celebrate like holidays like the like we'll do that you know like the like we'll do that you know like and I I think it's it's fine I'm like and I I think it's it's fine I'm not not um I I think celebrating our culture is um I I think celebrating our culture is awesome sure and that's something that I awesome sure and that's something that I do just about every time I show up do just about every time I show up anywhere publicly I I celebrate my roots anywhere publicly I I celebrate my roots in some way so I I think that the first in some way so I I think that the first thing is that you you know the way that thing is that you you know the way that I try to approach this problem and I'll
94:02 – 95:02
I try to approach this problem and I'll first caveat is that I'm I'm the first caveat is that I'm I'm the beneficiary of people who do things that beneficiary of people who do things that are not my way so so there are people are not my way so so there are people who are like like my buddy who will who are like like my buddy who will advocate so that when there's a textbook advocate so that when there's a textbook that says this person is a Brahman and that says this person is a Brahman and has a picture of a Mula like they're has a picture of a Mula like they're like hey you can't this is wrong right like hey you can't this is wrong right this is not factually correct like if this is not factually correct like if you want to talk about brahans at least you want to talk about brahans at least put the right picture in put the right picture in there so I'm the beneficiary of people there so I'm the beneficiary of people who do advocacy who do advocacy work um so I'm not saying that that my work um so I'm not saying that that my way is the best way or the only way or way is the best way or the only way or even necessarily a good way so I think even necessarily a good way so I think that that you know for a kid who is that that you know for a kid who is listening to this stuff who is listening listening to this stuff who is listening to hate and feels attacked to say to hate and feels attacked to say something that bolsters that person's something that bolsters that person's confidence helps them not feel alone I confidence helps them not feel alone I think that's fantastic right so like hey think that's fantastic right so like hey like like we should C so if you're being like like we should C so if you're being if your culture is being attacked your if your culture is being attacked your culture can also be celebrated and culture can also be celebrated and that's one way to balance those two that's one way to balance those two things out I think that's fantastic
95:02 – 96:02
things out I think that's fantastic because I think it doesn't engage in because I think it doesn't engage in this entrenchment and intolerance it's this entrenchment and intolerance it's not so much about saying that this not so much about saying that this person is wrong it is about showing this person is wrong it is about showing this person another version of reality where person another version of reality where like there are parts of you that you like there are parts of you that you don't have to be ashamed of right so I don't have to be ashamed of right so I think that's fantastic all for it I I think that's fantastic all for it I I think I try to do that in some ways so think I try to do that in some ways so speaking of speaking of representation right so that's where representation right so that's where like I I mean that's something I take like I I mean that's something I take very seriously about um and it's not very seriously about um and it's not just representing South Asian so I I try just representing South Asian so I I try to represent psychiatrists that have a to represent psychiatrists that have a really bad I mean when I was in med really bad I mean when I was in med school you know one of my surgery school you know one of my surgery attendings was like you should not do attendings was like you should not do Psychiatry and I was like why not he's Psychiatry and I was like why not he's like you're too smart to be a like you're too smart to be a psychiatrist I was like what does that psychiatrist I was like what does that mean right you want to select for dumb mean right you want to select for dumb psychiatrist it's crazy so so I I try to psychiatrist it's crazy so so I I try to be a representative of the things that I be a representative of the things that I believe in which is being South Asian believe in which is being South Asian which is being a man which is being which is being a man which is being someone who is spiritual or religious
96:02 – 97:02
someone who is spiritual or religious which like I think it's totally fine which like I think it's totally fine there's a rise of atheism but there's there's a rise of atheism but there's also I mean I think that's a good thing also I mean I think that's a good thing yeah but there's also rise of yeah but there's also rise of anti-religiosity anti-religiosity specifically in academic institutions so specifically in academic institutions so if you're like religious you're viewed if you're like religious you're viewed you're looked down upon in higher levels you're looked down upon in higher levels of Academia because you're like and of Academia because you're like and because that's because that's religious people have gotten the have religious people have gotten the have formed an association of being stupid formed an association of being stupid and anti-science like those two things and anti-science like those two things have have have been Associated so I I have have have been Associated so I I think being you know being a form of think being you know being a form of representation to support representation to support certain ideas that there certain ideas that there is anti- sentiment toward so I think is anti- sentiment toward so I think being a man is another good example of being a man is another good example of like you know there's so much anti- like you know there's so much anti- masculine hatred out there I I think a masculine hatred out there I I think a lot of I think a lot I understand I lot of I think a lot I understand I think a lot of it is in a sense think a lot of it is in a sense Justified because I I think these people Justified because I I think these people you know they don't just they're not you know they don't just they're not born hating men it's it's that when
97:02 – 98:02
born hating men it's it's that when you're nine years old and you start to you're nine years old and you start to get sexualized and you get sent dickpics get sexualized and you get sent dickpics like every week from random people when like every week from random people when you're 13 14 15 16 17 when you've got a you're 13 14 15 16 17 when you've got a TA or a professor who you know tells you TA or a professor who you know tells you they've got like it's like really hard they've got like it's like really hard to like when you're a woman and you open to like when you're a woman and you open your mouth on voice chat it's really your mouth on voice chat it's really hard to not be scarred by your hard to not be scarred by your experiences with men and also like you experiences with men and also like you know when they say something that is know when they say something that is hateful towards men I think arguing with hateful towards men I think arguing with them about not all men doesn't serve the them about not all men doesn't serve the purpose oh no definitely not right it purpose oh no definitely not right it doesn't it just it gets people angry on doesn't it just it gets people angry on both sides I think the attitude that I both sides I think the attitude that I take is that I'm happy to be a man I'm take is that I'm happy to be a man I'm happy to cuddle with my kids I'm happy happy to cuddle with my kids I'm happy to work for my wife like that doesn't to work for my wife like that doesn't threaten my masculinity and it's like threaten my masculinity and it's like she's better at that job and I'm better she's better at that job and I'm better at this job and that's why we do it that at this job and that's why we do it that way and and so I I think that I I think way and and so I I think that I I think representation positive representation representation positive representation I'm all in favor of and I think that's I'm all in favor of and I think that's the in a sense the right direction the in a sense the right direction that's one really positive direction that's one really positive direction that I can totally get behind so I think
98:02 – 99:02
that I can totally get behind so I think celebrating Dal travel sort of saying celebrating Dal travel sort of saying that like you know like Indian food is that like you know like Indian food is great is is good I think also some of great is is good I think also some of these things around you know body types these things around you know body types being different it's not because we're being different it's not because we're in a computer in front of a computer all in a computer in front of a computer all day like our our fat ratios are are the day like our our fat ratios are are the percentage of body fat um that we hold percentage of body fat um that we hold on to is brown people like our our on to is brown people like our our musculature and body fat percentages are musculature and body fat percentages are not what is traditionally aesthetic yeah not what is traditionally aesthetic yeah but then have male Nani got so ripped but then have male Nani got so ripped and now we're all we're all weak and now we're all we're all weak compared it's way harder for the average compared it's way harder for the average person to get ripped than it is for person to get ripped than it is for other ethnicities sure sure and that has other ethnicities sure sure and that has to do with our metabolism we also have to do with our metabolism we also have really bad heart disease despite the really bad heart disease despite the fact that we do not have a lot of the fact that we do not have a lot of the high-risk parts of diet for heart high-risk parts of diet for heart disease we do have a lot of other ones disease we do have a lot of other ones but we we literally have like small but we we literally have like small vascul so there's a cardiologist down in vascul so there's a cardiologist down in Florida who specifically practices Florida who specifically practices Cardiology for Indian people because our Cardiology for Indian people because our vascul is different so physiologically
99:02 – 100:02
vascul is different so physiologically we are different it's hard for us to be we are different it's hard for us to be sexy in the way that is traditionally sexy in the way that is traditionally sexy in our media right sexy in our media right now and and sure you can do it or some now and and sure you can do it or some of us can do it thanks but it's hard of us can do it thanks but it's hard yeah right I think a lot of those like yeah right I think a lot of those like racist things I I think are make sense racist things I I think are make sense but I think that the attit like so for but I think that the attit like so for example you know Indian people smelling example you know Indian people smelling bad like I hate to say this but I used bad like I hate to say this but I used to make fun of people who were from to make fun of people who were from India smelling bad eat such insanely India smelling bad eat such insanely malalad food that's part of it like my malalad food that's part of it like my wife and I will be more careful about wife and I will be more careful about one of my daughter's hygiene because if one of my daughter's hygiene because if she eats certain kinds of food she gets she eats certain kinds of food she gets this genetic boo man like it's like it's this genetic boo man like it's like it's like a thing right so now when I have like a thing right so now when I have you know people who come over from India you know people who come over from India M I'll have a compassionate but focused M I'll have a compassionate but focused conversation with them about hygiene conversation with them about hygiene because hygiene standards are cultural because hygiene standards are cultural it doesn't mean that they're pathetic it doesn't mean that they're pathetic but there are differences in hygiene I
100:02 – 101:02
but there are differences in hygiene I don't know how things are now but 20 don't know how things are now but 20 years ago there was like you know there years ago there was like you know there was a difference and I remember when my was a difference and I remember when my dad would also have like like you know dad would also have like like you know 20 years ago I don't know if 30 years 20 years ago I don't know if 30 years ago I don't know if deodorant was ago I don't know if deodorant was available in India I don't know if available in India I don't know if people use deodorant right so when people use deodorant right so when people would yeah and I I'm not I'm not people would yeah and I I'm not I'm not trying to say that Indian people are trying to say that Indian people are inherently smelly I think the the inherently smelly I think the the hygiene and like you said the food will hygiene and like you said the food will you know our our sweat releases certain you know our our sweat releases certain compounds in the same way that we can compounds in the same way that we can have garlic breath or onion breath right have garlic breath or onion breath right so we ex we exert volatile compounds so we ex we exert volatile compounds from our lungs after we eat garlic and from our lungs after we eat garlic and onions and there are certain things that onions and there are certain things that come out of the sweat and give us like a come out of the sweat and give us like a funky Bo sure sure and it's the price we funky Bo sure sure and it's the price we pay for delicious food yeah I just feel pay for delicious food yeah I just feel like there's like you're what you're like there's like you're what you're saying is so right and it really Rings saying is so right and it really Rings true to me but like there's a there's a true to me but like there's a there's a line between This and like like can you line between This and like like can you say this it's almost like you can say say this it's almost like you can say every racial stereotype is rooted in every racial stereotype is rooted in some truth are you willing to like say
101:02 – 102:02
some truth are you willing to like say that I would not every I get lot of but that I would not every I get lot of but I just feel like it gets like we're I just feel like it gets like we're almost like Douglas Murray posting where almost like Douglas Murray posting where we're like I don't know who that is it's we're like I don't know who that is it's it's just this guy who like talks about it's just this guy who like talks about like genetic differences and ethnicities like genetic differences and ethnicities and like we can talk about Indian and like we can talk about Indian genetic differences because of our genetic differences because of our context but I'd feel vastly context but I'd feel vastly uncomfortable if I was like talking to uncomfortable if I was like talking to like lway and he's like bro Indian like lway and he's like bro Indian people smell like people smell like [ __ ] I mean think that's that's a that's [ __ ] I mean think that's that's a that's that's a social rule that we have yeah that's a social rule that we have yeah that if something is true about Indian that if something is true about Indian people we are allowed to say it and people we are allowed to say it and other people aren't correct which is I other people aren't correct which is I think is like sort of a I'm like this is think is like sort of a I'm like this is shaking around here but I think it like shaking around here but I think it like confuses me so something is confuses me so something is true but only some people are allowed to true but only some people are allowed to speak the truth and you're allowed to speak the truth and you're allowed to speak the truth based on your speak the truth based on your race this yeah this is definitely this race this yeah this is definitely this is this is where like I think there's a is this is where like I think there's a lot of like intellectual laziness here lot of like intellectual laziness here and I think your point about malice is a
102:02 – 103:02
and I think your point about malice is a really good one because I think what really good one because I think what happens is a lot of people will pretend happens is a lot of people will pretend to be truth Seekers but have malice to be truth Seekers but have malice they're like oh yeah like it's true they're like oh yeah like it's true right but like like I'm just doing right but like like I'm just doing research into this but it's like have research into this but it's like have some agenda so I I think you can say some agenda so I I think you can say something that is true from a non- something that is true from a non- malice perspective or from a malice malice perspective or from a malice perspective sure you can make comments perspective sure you can make comments that are factually that are factually correct and I think this is where correct and I think this is where there's a lot of intellectual laziness there's a lot of intellectual laziness yeah because if you say that there are yeah because if you say that there are more black people the percentage of more black people the percentage of black people in prison in the United black people in prison in the United States outweighs the percentage of the States outweighs the percentage of the population that is a factually true population that is a factually true statement I've seen that when I was statement I've seen that when I was working in the jail it took me three working in the jail it took me three weeks to see a white person I didn't weeks to see a white person I didn't even realize it until I was in week even realize it until I was in week three and I was like wait something's three and I was like wait something's different oh I saw a white person for different oh I saw a white person for the first time the first time it's like holy [ __ ] that's when it hit it's like holy [ __ ] that's when it hit me that's I really didn't understand me that's I really didn't understand that statistic until I was like I'm in that statistic until I was like I'm in Boston yeah like Irish center of the
103:02 – 104:02
Boston yeah like Irish center of the United States I maybe not Center I'm United States I maybe not Center I'm sure other cities will disagree with sure other cities will disagree with that but like so so many Caucasian that but like so so many Caucasian people I didn't see a single white people I didn't see a single white person until a single white patient person until a single white patient guards were all white but you know so guards were all white but you know so like I think those statements are like I think those statements are factually true but I do not think that factually true but I do not think that means black people are criminals I think means black people are criminals I think that criminal Behavior has certain that criminal Behavior has certain systemic things that desperation and systemic things that desperation and poverty induce criminal Behavior like poverty induce criminal Behavior like those are like the two biggest things so those are like the two biggest things so it's not that you know so I think it's not that you know so I think there's a lot of like Nuance here that's there's a lot of like Nuance here that's lost and and especially on the internet lost and and especially on the internet when people are so reactive and what when people are so reactive and what people do is they they judge based on people do is they they judge based on their preconceived notions they don't their preconceived notions they don't try to understand they don't try to give try to understand they don't try to give people the benefit of the doubt right so people the benefit of the doubt right so I I'm kind of going all over the place I I'm kind of going all over the place but I think that that totally makes but I think that that totally makes sense so so I I I I wouldn't say that sense so so I I I I wouldn't say that every racial stereotype is true but I every racial stereotype is true but I would say that human beings have a brain would say that human beings have a brain that forms patterns out of that forms patterns out of data and before we say that those
104:02 – 105:02
data and before we say that those patterns are true human this same patterns are true human this same pattern generating machine can look at a pattern generating machine can look at a cloud and see a bunny there's no bunny cloud and see a bunny there's no bunny there our pattern generating apparatus there our pattern generating apparatus is not a one toone indicator of Truth by is not a one toone indicator of Truth by any means MH and I think our cognitive any means MH and I think our cognitive bias is actually in some way so when you bias is actually in some way so when you say is every stereotype based truth I say is every stereotype based truth I think the majority of stereotypes that think the majority of stereotypes that we have are probably based in some truth we have are probably based in some truth but I think if we look at some racism but I think if we look at some racism like Indians are smart that is not a like Indians are smart that is not a factually true statement Indians make factually true statement Indians make good doctors is not a factually true good doctors is not a factually true statement the reason that people believe statement the reason that people believe that is because there is a selection that is because there is a selection process where we're taking the top 5% of process where we're taking the top 5% of Indians and we're moving them from India Indians and we're moving them from India to the United States where they all to the United States where they all become doctors yeah so it's not become doctors yeah so it's not factually true so so like I I think that factually true so so like I I think that there I wouldn't agree with that there I wouldn't agree with that statement but I think that a lot of statement but I think that a lot of the ethnic and racial stereotypes that the ethnic and racial stereotypes that we we have even though it's not factually true
105:02 – 106:02
have even though it's not factually true at that level it is not conf it is not at that level it is not conf it is not surprising that if you're like a surprising that if you're like a Caucasian person who grows up in the Caucasian person who grows up in the United States and 50% of your doctors United States and 50% of your doctors are Indian you would think that Indians are Indian you would think that Indians are like into medicine like that's true are like into medicine like that's true so I think that's also where like when so I think that's also where like when we say okay is this true or not true we say okay is this true or not true it's like it depends on how you cut the it's like it depends on how you cut the pie yeah it's it's almost like it's so pie yeah it's it's almost like it's so it's almost like completely like it just it's almost like completely like it just it's if people are speaking with malice it's if people are speaking with malice regardless if it's true or not the regardless if it's true or not the malice is still the same yeah you know malice is still the same yeah you know what I mean so like yeah I I completely what I mean so like yeah I I completely agree with you but uh you know my my agree with you but uh you know my my thing is like when people speak with thing is like when people speak with malice on anything uh related to South malice on anything uh related to South Asians or whatever so now the question Asians or whatever so now the question becomes so you said that you you want to becomes so you said that you you want to you want to speak up for the sake of the you want to speak up for the sake of the person who's getting like collat Dage person who's getting like collat Dage from the internet based malice right from the internet based malice right fair enough so how do you what's your to fair enough so how do you what's your to deal with the malice you don't have to deal with the malice you don't have to have one but I'm just curious like what have one but I'm just curious like what do you think because you're saying that do you think because you're saying that you know malice is like it's not it's
106:02 – 107:02
you know malice is like it's not it's not the statement itself right there's a not the statement itself right there's a way in which that statement can be true way in which that statement can be true there's a way in which that statement there's a way in which that statement can be false we are allowed to make that can be false we are allowed to make that statement and it's okay because of our statement and it's okay because of our race right so we can and just literally race right so we can and just literally there's like literally words nice to see there's like literally words nice to see you there are words in the English you there are words in the English language that we're allowed to say or language that we're allowed to say or not say depending on what the color of not say depending on what the color of our skin is sure so what I'm curious our skin is sure so what I'm curious about is like when it comes to malice about is like when it comes to malice mhm how do what do you think we should mhm how do what do you think we should do about that that's where I'm like do about that that's where I'm like tricky where I'm like I don't want to be tricky where I'm like I don't want to be the guy you know I don't want to be like the guy you know I don't want to be like the guy who's uh you know who seems the guy who's uh you know who seems preachy or anything or like social justi preachy or anything or like social justi you know stereotype but I also don't you know stereotype but I also don't want to seem like someone who's just let want to seem like someone who's just let bad like M like hateful ideas live on bad like M like hateful ideas live on like that's where I'm I'm not sure to be like that's where I'm I'm not sure to be honest I I don't know yeah so I I mean honest I I don't know yeah so I I mean that that's sort of like I I I think the that that's sort of like I I I think the right way to deal with that or not the right way to deal with that or not the right my way of dealing with that and
107:02 – 108:02
right my way of dealing with that and the way that I deal with that is also the way that I deal with that is also based on my skill set right so it's what based on my skill set right so it's what I it's not what is most objectively I it's not what is most objectively effective it's that with these two hands effective it's that with these two hands what can I what can I do and I I think it's having do and I I think it's having conversations with people and I I think conversations with people and I I think the the challenging thing for me is the the challenging thing for me is that I do think that's the right move I that I do think that's the right move I think there's plenty of data to support think there's plenty of data to support that and also having conversations with that and also having conversations with people who are perceived as people who are perceived as toxic is a very dangerous game to play toxic is a very dangerous game to play I'm not even allowed to talk to those I'm not even allowed to talk to those people yeah right so you can't engage people yeah right so you can't engage with them and so it's kind of like if with them and so it's kind of like if there's no like option for diplomacy there's no like option for diplomacy your only option is war and that I don't your only option is war and that I don't think is good so I I I think that really think is good so I I I think that really like understanding and listening to like understanding and listening to these people so I work you know I've these people so I work you know I've worked with a lot of like incels and red worked with a lot of like incels and red pillars who are just like pillars who are just like of but I I think what they're missing of but I I think what they're missing especially like if you look at toxic the especially like if you look at toxic the area that I know the best is toxic area that I know the best is toxic masculinity and usually the people who
108:02 – 109:02
masculinity and usually the people who are toxically masculine were like you are toxically masculine were like you know they're a prod just like black know they're a prod just like black people being in jail is a product of people being in jail is a product of their circumstances I think most people their circumstances I think most people who are toxically masculine are product who are toxically masculine are product of their circumstances for sure I feel of their circumstances for sure I feel like everyone's a product of their like everyone's a product of their circumstances yeah what we know from circumstances yeah what we know from Psychiatry and Trauma and developmental Psychiatry and Trauma and developmental psychology yeah and that goes back to psychology yeah and that goes back to this other statement of think most this other statement of think most people are doing the best that they can people are doing the best that they can MH I think most people are doing so you MH I think most people are doing so you know I have I have a friend that I I know I have I have a friend that I I play DotA with who makes racist comments play DotA with who makes racist comments I think it's the stupidest [ __ ] in the I think it's the stupidest [ __ ] in the world but he just doesn't know better world but he just doesn't know better like he doesn't like grasp that this is like he doesn't like grasp that this is wrong yeah and I remember working with a wrong yeah and I remember working with a an Esports professional who told me the an Esports professional who told me the same thing he was like you know he he same thing he was like you know he he blew up when he was like 15 and when blew up when he was like 15 and when you're you know a I'm not a professional you're you know a I'm not a professional gamer but you start out playing games gamer but you start out playing games like racism and misogyny and things like like racism and misogyny and things like that are like common place and someone that are like common place and someone had to sit him down over the course of a had to sit him down over the course of a couple of years and really talk to this couple of years and really talk to this kid about like why this is not okay and kid about like why this is not okay and this does hurt people and he doesn't
109:02 – 110:02
this does hurt people and he doesn't understand that because he grow grew up understand that because he grow grew up in a small town in you know a part of in a small town in you know a part of North America that like he just didn't North America that like he just didn't encounter these people he didn't encounter these people he didn't understand that it was hurtful so a lot understand that it was hurtful so a lot of that positive guidance is lacking of that positive guidance is lacking yeah so my my Approach is talk to people yeah so my my Approach is talk to people and usually when you meet people with and usually when you meet people with compassion you'll be amazed it like what compassion you'll be amazed it like what what you put out is usually what you what you put out is usually what you receive so if you go people hard they'll receive so if you go people hard they'll entrench if you approach people with entrench if you approach people with compassion many of them compassion many of them will offer you the same respect sure and will offer you the same respect sure and if if you really try to understand where if if you really try to understand where their views come from I've seen a couple their views come from I've seen a couple of really surprising things which makes of really surprising things which makes sense once you kind of see it but see if sense once you kind of see it but see if racism is not correct if you ask someone racism is not correct if you ask someone to explain it it'll fall apart yeah to explain it it'll fall apart yeah really try to understand it'll fall really try to understand it'll fall apart apart mhm and most of the time people just mhm and most of the time people just don't do that so it's like oh like don't do that so it's like oh like Indian people this way like how do you Indian people this way like how do you understand that you know like where does
110:02 – 111:02
understand that you know like where does that belief come from and usually when I that belief come from and usually when I do that like I'm Amazed by how do that like I'm Amazed by how quickly positions that are strongly held quickly positions that are strongly held will fall apart yes can I ask you a will fall apart yes can I ask you a question that seems related to this so I question that seems related to this so I one thing that I I I actually like I one thing that I I I actually like I think you you did an excellent job think you you did an excellent job explaining like The Compassion component explaining like The Compassion component of this then why are all of the content of this then why are all of the content creators who cover controversial topics creators who cover controversial topics and political how are they and political how are they so I can't think of a a word there it's so I can't think of a a word there it's almost like a lack of compassion is almost like a lack of compassion is rewarded like all the top so like yeah rewarded like all the top so like yeah so like how do you how do you engage so like how do you how do you engage compassionately when you're on a compassionately when you're on a platform that promotes a lack of platform that promotes a lack of compassion you you know what I mean like compassion you you know what I mean like if like a big simple it's simple okay
111:02 – 112:02
if like a big simple it's simple okay you just have to understand so success you just have to understand so success on the platform and solving the problem on the platform and solving the problem are two very different outcomes sure are two very different outcomes sure those are not connected at those are not connected at all so I I am all so I I am confident confident that my subscriber count on the internet that my subscriber count on the internet could be 4 100% higher if I open my could be 4 100% higher if I open my mouth more I'm like very confident we mouth more I'm like very confident we could start alt-right grifting right now could start alt-right grifting right now Dr K the big Ram Swami two and Dr K the big Ram Swami two and three we can go right now let's so it's three we can go right now let's so it's this is just where you have to decide this is just where you have to decide what's important to you what's important to you yeah is I and So speaking of the midlife yeah is I and So speaking of the midlife crisis this is part of what I was going crisis this is part of what I was going through is because I I I suddenly became through is because I I I suddenly became arguably I don't know but I was having a arguably I don't know but I was having a conversation with my agent about this conversation with my agent about this the most well-known psychiatrist on the the most well-known psychiatrist on the planet psychologists that are more planet psychologists that are more well-known psychiatrists very few I'm at
112:02 – 113:02
well-known psychiatrists very few I'm at least in the running and it's kind of least in the running and it's kind of weird so like once you like hit that weird so like once you like hit that right so what what what am I doing am I right so what what what am I doing am I just trying to grow then you get into just trying to grow then you get into this growth mindset where like you need this growth mindset where like you need more numbers and you need more numbers more numbers and you need more numbers and you need more money and scalability and you need more money and scalability more more more more more and I more more more more more and I intentionally took a step away from a intentionally took a step away from a lot of that and it's like we're going to lot of that and it's like we're going to make content not because we think it'll make content not because we think it'll be be successful we got a lot of fantastic successful we got a lot of fantastic feedback on our from our community about feedback on our from our community about our titles and thumbnails so there's our titles and thumbnails so there's like a balancing between how click baity like a balancing between how click baity you make something and how like you know you make something and how like you know sure so there's like you have to play sure so there's like you have to play the game some but I think that it's like the game some but I think that it's like the reason that that works is because the reason that that works is because you're right that's what platforms you're right that's what platforms select for platforms are increasingly select for platforms are increasingly dope and energic what platforms have dope and energic what platforms have figur I don't know if they figured this figur I don't know if they figured this out intentionally or they just built out intentionally or they just built algorithm because this is how the human algorithm because this is how the human brain works that when I show you a cat brain works that when I show you a cat and then I piss you off and then I make and then I piss you off and then I make you feel good and I'm convinced that you feel good and I'm convinced that righteous is the number one emotion that righteous is the number one emotion that creates engagement okay you have to show creates engagement okay you have to show someone something that is wrong and you
113:02 – 114:02
someone something that is wrong and you have to make them feel right this is have to make them feel right this is number one yes so I I think what happens number one yes so I I think what happens is when you look at social media you get is when you look at social media you get righteous you get angry this is not righteous you get angry this is not right something needs to be right something needs to be done and that's what your Al that's the done and that's what your Al that's the number one thing that I that's I'm number one thing that I that's I'm convinced of that yes yes uh I do have a convinced of that yes yes uh I do have a so like sorry I know we might be going so like sorry I know we might be going over but that's fine go for it uh so over but that's fine go for it uh so what my question wasn't necessarily what my question wasn't necessarily about like your or my success but rather about like your or my success but rather if the idea is that you found it if the idea is that you found it effective that compassion is the effective that compassion is the antidote to people spewing like hateful antidote to people spewing like hateful things to respond to them with things to respond to them with compassion and talk to people then why compassion and talk to people then why don't we see compassion rise to the top don't we see compassion rise to the top and you're saying like dopaminergically and you're saying like dopaminergically it's the intolerance that rises to the it's the intolerance that rises to the top yeah but so like so then if if I was top yeah but so like so then if if I was a new streamer and I'm like hey I want a new streamer and I'm like hey I want to do politics but I want to listen and to do politics but I want to listen and talk then why don't we see that
114:02 – 115:02
talk then why don't we see that succeed because it be because the what's succeed because it be because the what's your criteria for Success how do you your criteria for Success how do you define success like to be a top to be a define success like to be a top to be a top like in in the context of twitch to top like in in the context of twitch to be a top political streamer because it doesn't because people that's not what people are interested in people not what people are interested in people aren't interested in solving problems aren't interested in solving problems people are interested in propagating people are interested in propagating their belief that they're right okay so their belief that they're right okay so I I don't think like I don't know if I I don't think like I don't know if this makes sense this makes sense but you know if you've got a clogged but you know if you've got a clogged toilet fixing that is not entertaining toilet fixing that is not entertaining to anyone fixing anything in your life to anyone fixing anything in your life is not entertaining to anyone improving is not entertaining to anyone improving things is not generally speaking things is not generally speaking entertaining to anyone what engages entertaining to anyone what engages people because see this is what's what people because see this is what's what we need to
115:02 – 116:02
understand I once had a patient who was very successful but they who was very successful but they operated between two operated between two poles absolute panic and relief there poles absolute panic and relief there was no room for Success there's no room was no room for Success there's no room for Pride so like what happens when you for Pride so like what happens when you solve a problem is it goes solve a problem is it goes away so all of the people who away so all of the people who successfully successfully engage get beat out by the people who engage get beat out by the people who are are like galvanizing support sure yeah I see like galvanizing support sure yeah I see that right so if you have like and this that right so if you have like and this is what we it's not just and I'm sort of is what we it's not just and I'm sort of on Shaky Ground here because I haven't on Shaky Ground here because I haven't looked at this in the political space looked at this in the political space but I think you see this all the time in but I think you see this all the time in the self-help industry the whole reason the self-help industry the whole reason that the self-help industry is so big is that the self-help industry is so big is because it doesn't work yeah because if it worked you wouldn't be using be using self-help you'd be like I'm done that self-help you'd be like I'm done that was good right so so the self-help was good right so so the self-help industry and it's it's really
116:02 – 117:02
industry and it's it's really interesting because like I I I've made interesting because like I I I've made some pieces of content include like some pieces of content include like doing things like writing a book and doing things like writing a book and like I I think that the what people are like I I think that the what people are selecting for is different so in our selecting for is different so in our human psychology like another really human psychology like another really good example of this is that so good example of this is that so everyone's unhappy right that's be the everyone's unhappy right that's be the reason for that is because reason for that is because we didn't evolve for happiness we we didn't evolve for happiness we evolved for survival happiness is hard evolved for survival happiness is hard to achieve what's way easier to achieve to achieve what's way easier to achieve is giving into our baser is giving into our baser urges and shooting for survival or urges and shooting for survival or worldly success yeah that's what we're worldly success yeah that's what we're made for for sure and if you sort of made for for sure and if you sort of think about it right like so human think about it right like so human beings were tribal which means when beings were tribal which means when there's a fight you need to throw down there's a fight you need to throw down and when when there's a fight you need and when when there's a fight you need to get behind your leader it pulls us to get behind your leader it pulls us together it gives us enhances that together it gives us enhances that tribalism but it makes us we feel under tribalism but it makes us we feel under attack and then we we then we're going attack and then we we then we're going to donate more money and buy your to donate more money and buy your merch yeah right and that's why like you
117:02 – 118:02
merch yeah right and that's why like you know sometimes people will ask me what's know sometimes people will ask me what's the goal like where do I see healthy the goal like where do I see healthy gamer in five years my goal with healthy gamer in five years my goal with healthy gamer is to shut it gamer is to shut it down I'm tired I mean not only am I down I'm tired I mean not only am I personally tired but like the whole personally tired but like the whole point is for us to be done is for us to point is for us to be done is for us to like leave our community and sometimes like leave our community and sometimes people get up said about that but we get people get up said about that but we get these fantastic people who be like hey these fantastic people who be like hey like I you know like I stopped watching like I you know like I stopped watching because I my life got better I don't because I my life got better I don't need it anymore need it anymore ftic yeah and it's the very opposite of ftic yeah and it's the very opposite of you know a lot of people are trying to you know a lot of people are trying to inen like no we want people to [ __ ] inen like no we want people to [ __ ] move on so when you solve a problem the move on so when you solve a problem the problem ends yeah and so I I think what problem ends yeah and so I I think what what starts to happen is that and this what starts to happen is that and this is where we kind of get into this weird is where we kind of get into this weird like validation cycle where people feel like validation cycle where people feel bad about something uh and then they bad about something uh and then they like it's not clear to me that they they like it's not clear to me that they they feel like they want to fix it but they feel like they want to fix it but they want to fix it and we see this all the want to fix it and we see this all the time in Psychiatry they want to fix it time in Psychiatry they want to fix it in a particular way they don't want to in a particular way they don't want to do what is necessary to fix it sure they
118:02 – 119:02
do what is necessary to fix it sure they want to fix it in this way yeah like my want to fix it in this way yeah like my favorite example of this is people who favorite example of this is people who are addicted to weed and you can fix all are addicted to weed and you can fix all of the problems that weed causes in your of the problems that weed causes in your life you just have to stop smoking it life you just have to stop smoking it but what they will do is try a thousand but what they will do is try a thousand different techniques of okay can I use different techniques of okay can I use it in this way can I use it in this way it in this way can I use it in this way only after 5:00 p.m. only after I do all only after 5:00 p.m. only after I do all my homework only after this and like my homework only after this and like these limits and that limit and this these limits and that limit and this limit and they're just not willing to limit and they're just not willing to give something up and I see that very give something up and I see that very very very very strongly in political conflicts yes very strongly in political conflicts yes because what people want is they don't because what people want is they don't want to compromise yeah they want to win want to compromise yeah they want to win true yes so they don't want to solve the true yes so they don't want to solve the problem they want to problem they want to win that's so true even like even on win that's so true even like even on even like internet commentators or even like internet commentators or whatever political whatever it feels whatever political whatever it feels like they're not even engaging in the like they're not even engaging in the issues they're engaging on dunking on issues they're engaging on dunking on each other like they're not even the each other like they're not even the political issue is completely separate political issue is completely separate to who's winning the conversation almost
119:02 – 120:02
to who's winning the conversation almost yes it's it becomes so ideological that yes it's it becomes so ideological that it's an IDE it's an ideology battle on it's an IDE it's an ideology battle on people's ideologies like nobody's giving people's ideologies like nobody's giving a [ __ ] about the real meat and potatoes a [ __ ] about the real meat and potatoes it's so and I would even argue that the it's so and I would even argue that the reason for that is because we can't even reason for that is because we can't even grasp the meat and potatoes yes grasp the meat and potatoes yes so like earlier when I asked you show me so like earlier when I asked you show me the data that quantifies the data that quantifies inequality I have and everyone is inequality I have and everyone is walking around saying my walking around saying my ethnicity is getting hammered more than ethnicity is getting hammered more than all of the other ethnicities right right all of the other ethnicities right right including white men and they have including white men and they have justifiable Arguments for justifiable Arguments for that right like they can point to all of that right like they can point to all of these different studies that show these different studies that show discrimination against white men discrimination against white men there are those there are those studies so I I I like I I think that the studies so I I I like I I think that the scale of problems that we're dealing scale of problems that we're dealing with is not even comprehendable really with is not even comprehendable really by the human mind and we're dealing with by the human mind and we're dealing with a lot of
120:02 – 121:02
a lot of bias and I think that like you know like bias and I think that like you know like I'm pretty sure that I know this is I'm pretty sure that I know this is going to sound crazy I'm pretty sure a going to sound crazy I'm pretty sure a lot of the world's problems could be lot of the world's problems could be solved if we could remove ego from the solved if we could remove ego from the equation uhhuh like I think problems are equation uhhuh like I think problems are solvable it's just we don't want solvable it's just we don't want to right we're not the the the primary to right we're not the the the primary goal is not solving it's not fixing the goal is not solving it's not fixing the problem it's winning it's I want to fix problem it's winning it's I want to fix it in this way MH and one of the things it in this way MH and one of the things that I almost never see people do is that I almost never see people do is something called a differential something called a differential diagnosis so I love this like my diagnosis so I love this like my favorite thing about being a doctor is favorite thing about being a doctor is that it it taught me this one principle that it it taught me this one principle which is that when you have a problem which is that when you have a problem there are multiple causes and multiple there are multiple causes and multiple Solutions that's not everyone's Solutions that's not everyone's advocating for their advocating for their solution and and we just don't think solution and and we just don't think like that because it's not how we're how like that because it's not how we're how we've evolved to think we've evolved to we've evolved to think we've evolved to think in very rapid ways and very
121:02 – 122:02
think in very rapid ways and very judgmental ways yeah and so this is the judgmental ways yeah and so this is the world that we live in because this is world that we live in because this is the world that we create the world that we create sure no that makes sense I think you hit sure no that makes sense I think you hit it spot on it spot on um I think focusing on not being um I think focusing on not being adversarial adversarial it I feel like one thing that I've it I feel like one thing that I've learned from talking to you learned from talking to you is if you meet like a vitriolic comment is if you meet like a vitriolic comment with the same vitriol it doesn't solve with the same vitriol it doesn't solve the problem not like it's not really beneficial for anybody except for like beneficial for anybody except for like you know sorry I mean I I recognize that you know sorry I mean I I recognize that I said that but I think there's an I said that but I think there's an important caveat there okay it does important caveat there okay it does solve the problem if you're more solve the problem if you're more powerful than the other powerful than the other person can you explain that yeah so person can you explain that yeah so like when you make a vitriolic comment like when you make a vitriolic comment on on Twitter and I own Twitter I can respond
122:02 – 123:02
Twitter and I own Twitter I can respond to you with vitriol and to you with vitriol and win right so when there's a power when win right so when there's a power when there's a fundamental power imbalance M there's a fundamental power imbalance M fighting fire with fire works or like fighting fire with fire works or like you know my gun is bigger than your gun you know my gun is bigger than your gun so if you come at with me a gun I'm so if you come at with me a gun I'm going to use my gun so there's a power going to use my gun so there's a power imbalance it works so let's be clear imbalance it works so let's be clear I'm advocating for that but don't think I'm advocating for that but don't think for a second that that doesn't work it for a second that that doesn't work it does does work you know this is this is why work you know this is this is why Empires are are built like they're built Empires are are built like they're built off of the back of war and like war is off of the back of war and like war is like something that humans do we've like something that humans do we've always done so so you know fighting fire always done so so you know fighting fire with fire does work if you've got the with fire does work if you've got the bigger fire yeah I didn't mean to burst bigger fire yeah I didn't mean to burst your like you know stop your momentum your like you know stop your momentum there but there but I I effective strategy it's just one I I effective strategy it's just one that I choose not to employ and I think that I choose not to employ and I think that that like I I don't think I don't think it's like I I don't think I don't think it's clear that people have you know a bigger clear that people have you know a bigger gun in this scenario
123:02 – 124:02
gun in this scenario no okay interesting then I do want to no okay interesting then I do want to ask you one last question are you ask you one last question are you optimistic about the um do you feel like the world is headed towards a place that the world is headed towards a place that is progress with a big Aster how like is progress with a big Aster how like however you defined a progressing however you defined a progressing forward I I'm I'm uh I'm so here's a forward I I'm I'm uh I'm so here's a couple of random answers couple of random answers first there's a there's a particular uh first there's a there's a particular uh Hindu Swami are do you identify as Hindu Hindu Swami are do you identify as Hindu by the way yeah okay do you know who gy by the way yeah okay do you know who gy is no so you know there's that's a movie is no so you know there's that's a movie isn't it yeah there's a movie so there's isn't it yeah there's a movie so there's a there's a 10th Avatar of Vishnu MH who a there's a 10th Avatar of Vishnu MH who is who's supposed to be kalki and kki is
124:02 – 125:02
is who's supposed to be kalki and kki is the Destroyer who brings the end of like the Destroyer who brings the end of like the world so he like eradicates evil but the world so he like eradicates evil but also like cleanses and maybe destroys also like cleanses and maybe destroys the world it's not entirely clear so you the world it's not entirely clear so you know it's really interesting because the know it's really interesting because the apocalypse unless you're like unless apocalypse unless you're like unless you're some crazy cult the apocalypse is you're some crazy cult the apocalypse is something that is far away right yeah so something that is far away right yeah so I was um there there's there's actually I was um there there's there's actually a a a spiritual teacher who I respect a a a a spiritual teacher who I respect a lot I won't name them but um who said lot I won't name them but um who said that that gy was either born or descended onto the gy was either born or descended onto the planet in planet in 2014 so there's like there's another 2014 so there's like there's another there are a couple of other like uh there are a couple of other like uh these are from the basically from the these are from the basically from the Hindu tradition a couple people who are Hindu tradition a couple people who are saying that like there's some saying that like there's some apocalyptic signs MH so it's interesting apocalyptic signs MH so it's interesting because you know I recognize that most because you know I recognize that most of the people who think the end of the of the people who think the end of the world is coming are crazy but I thought
125:02 – 126:02
world is coming are crazy but I thought it was interesting because there were a it was interesting because there were a couple of people that I respect a lot couple of people that I respect a lot who were kind of saying like hey like who were kind of saying like hey like this is maybe it's there are certain this is maybe it's there are certain signs of this signs of this happening um and so who knows if that's happening um and so who knows if that's true or not but it really does make me true or not but it really does make me wonder because I I think there's some wonder because I I think there's some data to suggest that human beings are at data to suggest that human beings are at a Tipping Point and there's a decent a Tipping Point and there's a decent likelihood that we won't tip in the likelihood that we won't tip in the right direction so that that that right direction so that that that climate stuff could really get out of climate stuff could really get out of hand and like the world will like end hand and like the world will like end like we'll get into this runaway climate like we'll get into this runaway climate disaster scenario right so I know disaster scenario right so I know there's a lot of dispute over whether there's a lot of dispute over whether that's correct or not correct or that's correct or not correct or whatever and a bunch of scientists say whatever and a bunch of scientists say it's possible a bunch of scientists say it's possible a bunch of scientists say it's BS or maybe a bunch of maybe it's BS or maybe a bunch of maybe non-scientists say it's BS sure so I I I non-scientists say it's BS sure so I I I think that there's a and I I do think think that there's a and I I do think there's something critical happening there's something critical happening like I I know that I imagine that every like I I know that I imagine that every generation has a cognitive bias that generation has a cognitive bias that thinks that this is the end of times but
126:02 – 127:02
thinks that this is the end of times but I do think we have a couple of signs I do think we have a couple of signs that things are that things are getting objectively more getting objectively more unstable sure and and potentially like unstable sure and and potentially like catastrophically so so birth rate catastrophically so so birth rate declines changes to our declines changes to our climate um economic climate um economic stuff development of stuff development of AI right so so there was this idea that AI right so so there was this idea that human advancement would lead to the human advancement would lead to the betterment of everybody but I think what betterment of everybody but I think what we're seeing is that human advancement we're seeing is that human advancement is being primarily controlled by some is being primarily controlled by some people and everyone else like you know people and everyone else like you know despite the fact that we can grow enough despite the fact that we can grow enough food to feed everybody on the food to feed everybody on the planet we still have people who are planet we still have people who are hungry and we have people who are hungry and we have people who are struggling to afford food and we have struggling to afford food and we have some people who have a ton of food and a some people who have a ton of food and a ton of money and things like that I'm ton of money and things like that I'm not like anti- capitalist or anything not like anti- capitalist or anything but I think that there some objective but I think that there some objective signs for for this stuff yeah I I think signs for for this stuff yeah I I think the end you know we really could be at
127:02 – 128:02
the end you know we really could be at some terminal point I've seen some some terminal point I've seen some arguments for that and I it's not that I arguments for that and I it's not that I believe them or don't believe them I believe them or don't believe them I think that they it is a reasonable think that they it is a reasonable argument to make interesting um I also argument to make interesting um I also think that you know gender Dynamics is think that you know gender Dynamics is like at an alltime mess MH um low birth like at an alltime mess MH um low birth rates late marriage rates things like rates late marriage rates things like that true sure so am I that true sure so am I optimistic not really but I I don't optimistic not really but I I don't think it think it matters so I don't know if this kind of matters so I don't know if this kind of makes sense but if I'm optimistic or if makes sense but if I'm optimistic or if I'm pessimistic what difference does I'm pessimistic what difference does that make that make squeaks well I think a lot of people I'm squeaks well I think a lot of people I'm just curious to know because I think uh just curious to know because I think uh I'm I Look to up to you as a figure of I'm I Look to up to you as a figure of someone who thinks a lot about this sort someone who thinks a lot about this sort of stuff so it makes a difference in my of stuff so it makes a difference in my Outlook look Outlook look personally what if I told you I was personally what if I told you I was optimistic what difference would that optimistic what difference would that make it' make me feel happy reass make it' make me feel happy reass reassured like definitely more reassured reassured like definitely more reassured about the future because as you said
128:02 – 129:02
about the future because as you said there is a lot of instability uh yeah so there is a lot of instability uh yeah so the attitude that I take is that I I the attitude that I take is that I I mean I think the world is [ __ ] mean I think the world is [ __ ] falling apart and we see a lot of falling apart and we see a lot of indications for that yeah but it doesn't indications for that yeah but it doesn't give me despair in in not one iota of give me despair in in not one iota of Despair mhm because I think that if the Despair mhm because I think that if the world is falling apart world is falling apart whether the world is falling apart or whether the world is falling apart or not the problems certainly exist whether not the problems certainly exist whether it results in total annihilation of all it results in total annihilation of all human beings or not the problem is still human beings or not the problem is still there right does that kind of make sense there right does that kind of make sense yeah it make it makes sense and then my yeah it make it makes sense and then my relation to the problem is the most relation to the problem is the most important important thing right so what I'm for the problems thing right so what I'm for the problems that I see in the world like I have no that I see in the world like I have no [ __ ] idea what's going to happen and [ __ ] idea what's going to happen and that's I've stopped living my life in that's I've stopped living my life in that way people ask me this question that way people ask me this question where do you see healthy gamer in five where do you see healthy gamer in five years I say eventually I you know I'd years I say eventually I you know I'd want to shut down but the way things are want to shut down but the way things are going that's not going to work like I going that's not going to work like I work more now than I did last year and work more now than I did last year and more last year than I did the year more last year than I did the year before and someone told me that before and someone told me that residency was gonna when I was gonna be residency was gonna when I was gonna be working the most not true I'm working working the most not true I'm working way harder now it's like what the [ __ ]
129:02 – 130:02
way harder now it's like what the [ __ ] yeah where's the payoff here right yeah yeah where's the payoff here right yeah so so I'm not optimistic about our so so I'm not optimistic about our future but I think that optimism and future but I think that optimism and pessimism are basically psychological pessimism are basically psychological things right so like you should do away things right so like you should do away with all of it don't be optimistic don't with all of it don't be optimistic don't be pessimistic there's C certain [ __ ] in be pessimistic there's C certain [ __ ] in your life and in the world around you your life and in the world around you that can be immediately affected by you that can be immediately affected by you today and that's what you should do you today and that's what you should do you should not be affected by the likelihood should not be affected by the likelihood of success of solving your problem you of success of solving your problem you should just try to solve your problem should just try to solve your problem because focusing on whether it will work because focusing on whether it will work or not work doesn't help you solve the or not work doesn't help you solve the problem and in fact focusing on optimism problem and in fact focusing on optimism or pessimism frequently causes problems or pessimism frequently causes problems in both directions if I'm optimistic it in both directions if I'm optimistic it leads to complacency if I'm pessimistic leads to complacency if I'm pessimistic it leads to despair neither of those it leads to despair neither of those things are going to me to be my best things are going to me to be my best self when I'm actually trying to do self when I'm actually trying to do something sure so I try to just I don't something sure so I try to just I don't [ __ ] know man and I don't care yeah [ __ ] know man and I don't care yeah there's problems that need to be done
130:02 – 131:02
there's problems that need to be done today that problem is I'm gonna have a today that problem is I'm gonna have a conversation with squeaks about South conversation with squeaks about South Asian hate because this is what I can do Asian hate because this is what I can do today to make the world a better place today to make the world a better place sure and this is where maybe I'm a sure and this is where maybe I'm a little bit arrogant maybe I'm a cult little bit arrogant maybe I'm a cult leader but I'm pretty sure if like way leader but I'm pretty sure if like way more people if 51% of the people on the more people if 51% of the people on the planet had this attitude the world would planet had this attitude the world would definitely be moving in the right definitely be moving in the right direction the attitude being like not direction the attitude being like not optimistic or like just focus on optimistic or like just focus on fixing not getting complacent because fixing not getting complacent because it's being okay and not getting topair it's being okay and not getting topair because you know like and it's so many because you know like and it's so many things it's like oh like I got dumped or things it's like oh like I got dumped or like I'm an incel or like this never like I'm an incel or like this never never never like the future Dimension never never like the future Dimension [ __ ] people so much like no one can [ __ ] people so much like no one can predict the future yeah and solving your predict the future yeah and solving your problems is going to be altering the problems is going to be altering the trajectory of the future so that's what trajectory of the future so that's what you should focus on you should focus on sure I agree that makes total sure I agree that makes total sense what about you what are you an OP
131:02 – 132:02
sense what about you what are you an OP Optimist what if what if I'm like Optimist what if what if I'm like super super optimism world is moving in the right no optimism world is moving in the right no I I actually share the same sentiment as I I actually share the same sentiment as you I would say I'm I try to be as you I would say I'm I try to be as realist as possible um because you're realist as possible um because you're right like uh you just don't know right like uh you just don't know there's a lot of inputs and not a lot of there's a lot of inputs and not a lot of outputs so we're going to see where outputs so we're going to see where those inputs what what lead you know those inputs what what lead you know what happens right um with with these what happens right um with with these inputs and the only thing we can do is inputs and the only thing we can do is focus what's in our control so yeah I'm focus what's in our control so yeah I'm just going to take the problems as they just going to take the problems as they arise I think that's a good outlook to arise I think that's a good outlook to have yeah and I think it's like I mean have yeah and I think it's like I mean it's it's it's what works very it's it's it's what works very consistently for like my patients and consistently for like my patients and clients is like just deal with your clients is like just deal with your [ __ ] problems yeah and the rest of [ __ ] problems yeah and the rest of the world can be an absolute dumpster the world can be an absolute dumpster fire yeah so extract What happiness you fire yeah so extract What happiness you can when the world is falling apart yeah can when the world is falling apart yeah you know like play some video you know like play some video games eat something games eat something tasty like go to the gym feel good about
132:02 – 133:02
tasty like go to the gym feel good about yourself do some yourself do some yoga meditate if you feel like it in yoga meditate if you feel like it in your case it's have another conversation your case it's have another conversation with someone about meditation yep so in with someone about meditation yep so in your case the reason to meditate is your case the reason to meditate is because it'll oh there's the other thing because it'll oh there's the other thing I I don't remember exactly I I don't remember exactly um when I wanted to say this but there um when I wanted to say this but there was one point that I wanted to you know was one point that I wanted to you know the self-reflective the self- appraisal that happens when someone looks at you all happens when someone looks at you all that stuff that you're talking about and that stuff that you're talking about and that's that's what meditation helped you that's that's what meditation helped you with right is that you felt like At with right is that you felt like At Peace so like you need to do D like Peace so like you need to do D like practices in those directions it'll help practices in those directions it'll help you with a lot of this this racism on you with a lot of this this racism on the internet stuff too yeah so when you the internet stuff too yeah so when you feel hurt so I don't feel hurt by racism feel hurt so I don't feel hurt by racism on the internet and maybe I just am on the internet and maybe I just am lucky yeah well me neither though I I'm lucky yeah well me neither though I I'm the same as you I I don't feel the same as you I I don't feel personally hurt at all okay yeah yeah personally hurt at all okay yeah yeah you mentioned that you were more like I you mentioned that you were more like I I want to advocate for the kid who yes I want to advocate for the kid who yes for the kid because I I would be hurt if for the kid because I I would be hurt if I was a kid because I'm just I I just
133:02 – 134:02
I was a kid because I'm just I I just wasn't in control of my emotions and and wasn't in control of my emotions and and I I think like very practically squeaks I I think like very practically squeaks like I I think what we got to do is like like I I think what we got to do is like we got to talk to people who are like we we got to talk to people who are like we really really dislike and maybe even like like I mean dislike and maybe even like like I mean I i' I've toyed I've mentioned this once I i' I've toyed I've mentioned this once or twice before but it's such a [ __ ] or twice before but it's such a [ __ ] lightning rod but it's like I I would lightning rod but it's like I I would love to take two people I mean I don't love to take two people I mean I don't know if I can ever do this or how much know if I can ever do this or how much this will destroy me but like a Le this will destroy me but like a Le Freedman debate sort of but I think like Freedman debate sort of but I think like Lex Freedman is like kind of a good Lex Freedman is like kind of a good example but I I'd love to just take like example but I I'd love to just take like two people who have conflict on the two people who have conflict on the internet and like let's just get into a internet and like let's just get into a room together and see you know how room together and see you know how arrogant Dr K is that he thinks he can arrogant Dr K is that he thinks he can make some kind make some kind of go crazy at the least but it's it's of go crazy at the least but it's it's you know I think honestly like I think you know I think honestly like I think some of the best stuff that I could do some of the best stuff that I could do would be having a conversation and even would be having a conversation and even demonstrating the futility of it and if demonstrating the futility of it and if we get somewhere hopefully people will we get somewhere hopefully people will learn how to manage conflict in their learn how to manage conflict in their own lives yeah you know but no one
134:02 – 135:02
own lives yeah you know but no one collabs no one collabs with people who collabs no one collabs with people who are who are who like I think the re the thinking is like like I think the re the thinking is like you don't want to give platform to you don't want to give platform to someone who has really bad ideas someone who has really bad ideas especially if you're not equipped to especially if you're not equipped to respond to them like I had an respond to them like I had an opportunity to speak to the V ramaswami opportunity to speak to the V ramaswami and I really wanted to but thinking and I really wanted to but thinking about it but I just didn't feel about it but I just didn't feel comfortable I I just don't think I would comfortable I I just don't think I would personally be equipped to combat some of personally be equipped to combat some of his ideas and so my lack of knowledge I his ideas and so my lack of knowledge I don't want it to come off as me don't want it to come off as me accepting certain things that he says accepting certain things that he says but if I was a subject expert in but if I was a subject expert in everything he would say I'd love to talk everything he would say I'd love to talk to the guy but I just had work to I just to the guy but I just had work to I just I just have work to do um so that's like I just have work to do um so that's like I would say that's the that's the I would say that's the that's the alternative form of thinking like I alternative form of thinking like I don't want to give access to my audience don't want to give access to my audience to bad ideas if I myself am not equipped to bad ideas if I myself am not equipped to combat them but what makes you think to combat them but what makes you think they're bad they're bad ideas well I just think like some ideas well I just think like some people's ideas are like just hurtful people's ideas are like just hurtful they're like I've seen it and I won't
135:02 – 136:02
they're like I've seen it and I won't say who like people celebrating on other say who like people celebrating on other people's miseries like just like things people's miseries like just like things like that like that are just so negative to a portion of are just so negative to a portion of people that just strip them away from people that just strip them away from fundamental rights like healthare or you fundamental rights like healthare or you know very basic things like I want to know very basic things like I want to make sure if brings that idea to me and make sure if brings that idea to me and package it packages it in a way that package it packages it in a way that seems palatable I can call [ __ ] out seems palatable I can call [ __ ] out and I I personally don't feel equi to do and I I personally don't feel equi to do that okay so like I think my attitude that okay so like I think my attitude would be a little bit different which is would be a little bit different which is that I mean I I would not I don't think that I mean I I would not I don't think I cannot recall ever I cannot recall ever having a stream having a stream where I tried to combat someone's where I tried to combat someone's ideas that' be so crazy so I mean I ideas that' be so crazy so I mean I could but I don't and and I that's sort could but I don't and and I that's sort of where like I I think of where like I I think it's you know the really weird thing and it's you know the really weird thing and maybe I'm lucky here but I think maybe I'm lucky here but I think generally speaking when I stop trying to generally speaking when I stop trying to combat people's ideas we end up like
136:02 – 137:02
combat people's ideas we end up like making more progress and maybe it's just making more progress and maybe it's just because I suck at argument or debating because I suck at argument or debating but I I I think really striving to but I I I think really striving to understand see if someone thinks understand see if someone thinks something that is a really in your mind something that is a really in your mind a really bad a really bad idea right I think you you got to under idea right I think you you got to under or not you don't have to but I I I think or not you don't have to but I I I think I have to understand why this person I have to understand why this person thinks this because this coming like thinks this because this coming like people aren't stupid agreed I completely people aren't stupid agreed I completely agree and so if someone believes agree and so if someone believes something their experience of reality is something their experience of reality is going to be different from your going to be different from your experience of reality and really experience of reality and really striving to understand that I think I striving to understand that I think I I've seen a lot more progress made that I've seen a lot more progress made that way sure but like don't you think way sure but like don't you think there's also evil ideas like people who there's also evil ideas like people who like you know how people on the we'll like you know how people on the we'll say virtue signaling all the time I've say virtue signaling all the time I've noticed on the internet there's this noticed on the internet there's this opposite effect which is vice signaling opposite effect which is vice signaling where it's like I'm so apathetic to where it's like I'm so apathetic to people that I will I will signal to people that I will I will signal to people how little of a [ __ ] I care have people how little of a [ __ ] I care have you seen like at least that's something you seen like at least that's something I've noticed so so I I I I imagine I
137:02 – 138:02
I've noticed so so I I I I imagine I think that there are evil ideas what I'm think that there are evil ideas what I'm skeptical of is how I would know which skeptical of is how I would know which ones are evil and which ones are ones are evil and which ones are good so even if you presume the good so even if you presume the existence of evil ideas that are existence of evil ideas that are categorically evil how do you know the categorically evil how do you know the difference difference because if someone is believing in evil because if someone is believing in evil idea how do you know that you're right idea how do you know that you're right and they're wrong now I do think that and they're wrong now I do think that there are things that are evil let's say there are things that are evil let's say and I think I know better than some and I think I know better than some people but also there are very few people I've worked with a lot of people who are very worked with a lot of people who are very bad and some of whom I would describe as bad and some of whom I would describe as evil like not evil sociopathic which I evil like not evil sociopathic which I think can be somewhat interchangeable think can be somewhat interchangeable yeah but there's a philosophical thing yeah but there's a philosophical thing there but I I think even in working with there but I I think even in working with those people those people like you know most of the people who like you know most of the people who commit evil the worst evils in the world commit evil the worst evils in the world aren't committed because they're evil
138:02 – 139:02
aren't committed because they're evil they're committed because people think they're committed because people think that they're doing righteousness sure so that they're doing righteousness sure so I I think even if you say that there's I I think even if you say that there's an evil idea it's like how do we know an evil idea it's like how do we know we're not the righteous [ __ ] who are we're not the righteous [ __ ] who are ruining the world well because we're not ruining the world well because we're not and because of this and because of this and because of this and because of this and because of this but then if you to and because of this but then if you to the other righteous [ __ ] they're the other righteous [ __ ] they're saying the same thing they're saying no saying the same thing they're saying no you're evil and I'm right because of you're evil and I'm right because of this and because of this and because of this and because of this and because of this and because of this so I think even this and because of this so I think even if evil ideas exist I I don't know that if evil ideas exist I I don't know that I have a monopoly on the good ones so I believe that and this is me this is believe that and this is me this is might be me completely talking out of my might be me completely talking out of my ass but I do believe there should be a ass but I do believe there should be a barometer of or a metric or a rubric of barometer of or a metric or a rubric of what makes something evil sure and I what makes something evil sure and I think there is a singular truth and so think there is a singular truth and so maybe I am pushing back a little bit on maybe I am pushing back a little bit on like what this person thinks is evil and like what this person thinks is evil and that person thinks is evil evil like I
139:02 – 140:02
that person thinks is evil evil like I can say naism is evil because of the can say naism is evil because of the suffering the human suffering and I feel suffering the human suffering and I feel very confident in saying that so if very confident in saying that so if there is someone who's promoting Nazism there is someone who's promoting Nazism I can say no that's a non-starter it's I can say no that's a non-starter it's an evil idea so I so the way I see it is an evil idea so I so the way I see it is that human suffering being number one that human suffering being number one and like violence and so I so maybe and like violence and so I so maybe that's something that I need to work on that's something that I need to work on is like I just have one singular like is like I just have one singular like rubric that I gauge ideas off of which rubric that I gauge ideas off of which is is like uh uh my rubric of truth of of what like uh uh my rubric of truth of of what I feel is evil personally um sure right I feel is evil personally um sure right so that I you everyone else uses the so that I you everyone else uses the rubric but like I almost feel like I rubric but like I almost feel like I almost feel like there should be a almost feel like there should be a worldwide but that's why we have like worldwide but that's why we have like the you know peace like war crimes you the you know peace like war crimes you know like there's certain things we know like there's certain things we accept that are accept that are evil yeah so so so like yes and no so
140:02 – 141:02
evil yeah so so so like yes and no so like like I mean I personally I agree like like I mean I personally I agree with you so I think you can use the with you so I think you can use the rubric of does this increase the total rubric of does this increase the total amount of human suffering in the world amount of human suffering in the world yes more than the opposite right and and yes more than the opposite right and and like you can say that and I think that's like you can say that and I think that's like a good rubric right but it's like a like a good rubric right but it's like a utilit utilit view so there's some harsh truths that view so there's some harsh truths that are sort of against that which is like are sort of against that which is like number one is like the law of nature number one is like the law of nature right so if you look at like Evolution right so if you look at like Evolution and natural selection it's not about the and natural selection it's not about the benefit of the population it's about the benefit of the population it's about the benefit of the individual there a lot of benefit of the individual there a lot of you know situations where that is the you know situations where that is the case or like that seems to be true in case or like that seems to be true in some some areas I'm not trying to suggest that we areas I'm not trying to suggest that we should not be utilitarian I think it's a should not be utilitarian I think it's a good like philosophical good like philosophical stance but I think that the challenge is stance but I think that the challenge is is once again in your measurement so so is once again in your measurement so so I I I know this sounds crazy but like you know I I I think how do you know that some uh particular Doctrine
141:02 – 142:02
know that some uh particular Doctrine will be like less suffering than another will be like less suffering than another Doctrine sure because I I think a lot of Doctrine sure because I I think a lot of the people who I've talked to who are the people who I've talked to who are sort of in the I wouldn't call them sort of in the I wouldn't call them Nazis but they're kind of in the Nazi Nazis but they're kind of in the Nazi camp people who are racist more like I camp people who are racist more like I have nothing against you it's just I have nothing against you it's just I want my ter teritory and you can have want my ter teritory and you can have yours you can go back to India where yours you can go back to India where your people belong and I can go I can be your people belong and I can go I can be here where my people belong and there here where my people belong and there are people in India who believe the same are people in India who believe the same thing right so so I I think once again thing right so so I I think once again it's about understanding like for for it's about understanding like for for the people who are Nazis like why are the people who are Nazis like why are that that why are they that way where that that why are they that way where did they start to get those beliefs um did they start to get those beliefs um and and I also agree with you that I and and I also agree with you that I think that truth is real yeah but think that truth is real yeah but there's just a gap between our capacity there's just a gap between our capacity to understand it and what it is to understand it and what it is sure I I completely agree with that I sure I I completely agree with that I think that's a fair assessment yeah cool think that's a fair assessment yeah cool man this before before we wrap up it is man this before before we wrap up it is such a blast to talk to you Doctor I
